could anyone suggest some hip hop artists and what not to listen to?
so you want some hip hop huh? Well i got you man. Lets start off main stream. We got Nas, whos way up there. Also big pun is a fucking beast lyrically. Stay away from his main stream though. Mos def is by far one of my all time favorites. Check out his album called "black on both sides"...matter of fact, go buy it right now! haha...Black star! black star is a group with both mos def and another true hiphop model, talib kweli. I think that is the best album ive ever heard for hiphop standards. Youll find NO comercial hype. The Roots, a hip hop band who actually uses instruments, are excellent and their "things fall apart" album is awesome. Check out the track with erykah badu entitled "you got me". Immortal technique is a raw, political, aggressive artist and pretty much one of the realist out there. Unsigned yet he sells and speaks the truth. On his album the revolutionary II, He speaks of a woman he once knew, that shit will bring a tear. You say youve never really heard hip hop so i wont introduce to southern hip hop because itll probally have subject matter you wont understand. Try to listen to mixtapes for they usually stay away from commercial hype. Papoose is a new one out there and is definately someone to look out for. Lupe Fiasco is an amazing emcee from chicago who recently released an album "food and liquor". Great album. I dont know if youve heard eminems cd "infinite" but if you havent, cop that because, in my opinion, one of his best. Jin is pretty good lately. Thats all i can think of at the top of my head. That will get you aquainted with culture hiphop pretty well.
