i guess cause it was broadcast on many platforms including live tv, they gotta show something visually impressive.
There was a time when they didnt even televise e3, all we had were magazine articles and shitty news anchors from g4 reporting from the sidelines. I noticed the e3 conference on spike tv let many companies display there expensive commercials.
