i haven't seen all of his movies (he's been in a lot), but i'd say his top 5 performances are in taxi driver, raging bull, the godfather part 2, the deer hunter, and the king of comedy. i can't rly rank them but taxi driver and raging bull are his 2 best.

he's been making some shitty decisions career wise tho i think

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Very average movie with a few laughs and a couple interesting tidbits. Not really worth seeing tbh.

Anchorman 2, I was entertained. Not better than the first but it was quite funny.

I don't know what to think tbh. Because of the run time (which I have no problem with, the movie flew by), I kind of lost the point of the beginning of the film and by the end the narrative didn't come together to me like I thought it would. That isn't a criticism though, just a fault in the way I approached the movie (and I should know better by now being very familiar with PTA's work). It was very enamoring, and the directing, cinematography and acting were all top notch. I did feel like (and felt the same way with The Master) the narrative was a bit cloudy but I think on repeat watches this will definitely hold together well. I really liked the structure of the film, I just underestimated the attention it required.

I'll definitely watch it again soon though.

I think that's what made it such a good movie. Kept me on edge the entire time. It was also a bad idea to watch it late at night, between it being so intense and creepy, going to sleep after was impossible. I was about to pop 3 Tylenol PMs to force myself to sleep.

I thought The Conjuring was awful and boring, I'll never understand the positive feedback

I think me and a few friends actually laughed out loud when that demon was on top of her closet, that looked so dumb

The horror genre is so polarizing because people feel if it doesn't scare them it isn't a good film. Not saying that's the case with you, but I find that interesting. I found the film pretty enjoyable. I think James Wan has a promising future too; his throwback style is a great nod to the classics. I think his most impressive ability behind the camera is how long he holds shots in building tension/suspense. That's a lost art in the genre which is now overpopulated with the "jump scares" that shock you momentarily and then dissipate.

I also enjoyed The Conjuring, it's one of the best horror movies I've seen. I think in order to appreciate it you need to watch it by yourself in the dark, no horror movie is enjoyable when you watch it with friends tbh. At least for me, it makes it impossible to feel any kind of tension or fear.

Not at all, I haven't found myself scared of a movie since possibly the age of 13-ish but I still think there are some great horror films out there. I think I was jumping the gun with saying it was awful, because I can't complain about so many of the film's aspects. Suspense or tension just doesn't build in my mind, because I know in t-minus 10 seconds after the sharp background music reaches its peak either something will pop out or it'll just be a false alarm intended to trick the audience into shitting themselves. And I guess I've taken it too far into account that after that scene is done, someone yells cut and the actors are like "Oh haa nice job on the set!" or some shit like that. I guess that I just don't see what makes The Conjuring any more thrilling than the litter of terrible horror movies released in the past decade. I would never watch it again out of pure enjoyment. :-k

I can see why that would be, but most of my time is spent watching horror movies alone tbh so I don't feel like this will change anything for me, but I'll give it another chance this weekend.

Can someone remind me, is this the same movie with the random doll that never really connects to the story or am I mixing two movies together, because for the life of me I can't remember

The Descent is a personal favourite of mine.

On the topic, Man Bites Dog, Alien, The Shining, The Silence of the Lambs, The Others (does that count?) :y: I don't see The Conjuring competing with these but as I said, I'll give it another go. Probably tonight.

Admittedly, the hide and clap scene was awesome. Gonna watch that link.
