His career got messed up because of that injury (and same will happen with Rose, mark my words) and the gun incident was just a "bonus". However, when he returned the next season he played quite well, and averaged more than 20 points for the Wizards. But when he got traded to Orlando he didn't get much playing time and hence the drop in numbers. Last season he went to the Grizzles and was in a great physical shape, and he played excellent but again too little minutes were given to him. Plus he kinda joined them towards the end of the season which gave him little room to get to know the team, and he obviously had missed training camp and stuff. But believe me, he's in a very decent shape.
As for his house, he actually put it up for sale a few days ago, and I believe his sharks have been dead for a while, lol. And lastly, don't let the media ruin his image for him, the gun thing was stupid yes, but he's a good guy and one of the most honest players ever. Remember that there are things like him helping a child who lost his parents in a fire through out the years, but you never get to hear about that side...
