I watched the replay several times as well and Cooke doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt because of his history..... It was a reckless play by Cooke which ended arguably 1 of the most exciting players to watch in the NHL... I saw Cooke lift his leg and stomp down on Karlsson 's ankle area... Did Cooke intend to tear his Achilles tendon? I don't think so at all but I believe his intentions were to hurt Karlsson.
That play along the boards happens in almost every hockey game with zero injuries, funny how Karlsson gets injured when Cooke does the same play.
Yes I hope Neil hurts Cooke when we play Shitsburgh again.
If you look at the angle which Cooke went in for the hit, he had his leg lifted as part of his turn into the hit. I think that as he went to put his foot back down he ran it over his leg by mistake. The NHL certainly would have suspended Cooke if they saw it as malicious, because he's a repeat offender and there was talk about expelling him from the NHL at one point.
If you want to see an actual stomp, look at Pronger on Kesler from probably 2007-ish. I have a feeling there was probably a hole in Karlssons sock that allowed what would have normally been nothing to cut his ankle.
