Problem with a router

Postby aleXander » Jan 6th, '10, 13:20

So I have a new router from Siemens. And I want to use it with my internet connection to spread wireless net in my home. First the computer recognized it but now it doesn't recognize it anymore. Neither my laptop. Which is pretty weird.

Do you know what should I do to be able to use it? It's new so I don't think it's broken.
Thank you :flower:

Hmm, so your saying your computer can't see the Wireless Network? Or is the computer picking it up but unable to connect?

When I connect the router to my computer I should be able to open it's configuration page (something like
http://192....., which is written on the user manual) in the browser. But that page does not open. That's the problem. Why?

Ok,

Hold your Windows Key + R.

This will bring up the Run Dialog

Type "CMD" and push Enter

This will bring up the Command Prompt

Now type "ipconfig /all"

This will bring a list of all your IP Configurations.

Look for your default gateway.

This will be the IP Address of your router, then just go to

http://**IP ADDRESS YOU GOT FROM ABOVE**

That should get you to the config page :)

If not send me a PM and we'll sort it :)

1-reset your modem FTW!!!

Just unplug the power from the modem for 15 seconds or more, then plug it back in.

if one doesn't work
2-use command prompt type "ipconfig /release" hit enter
type "ipconfig /renew"

if 2 doesn't work then i have a few questions

What type of internet do you have, cable or DSL? (DSL has a phone wire into the modem, Cable has a Coax cable going into the modem)

Does the modem have a router built in? If it has a route built in you'll have to configure it to pass the connection on to the new router. If it doesn't have a router built in it will pass the connection automatically thru the only ethernet port it has.
