DETROIT -- A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of rapper Proof.

Mario Etheridge, 28, of Detroit is in police custody.

The arrest stems from an argument that broke out Tuesday between Proof, whose real name is Deshaun Holton, and another Detroit man.

Proof opened fire, hitting former Army Sgt. Keith Bender Jr. Someone else fired shots at Proof, hitting him twice in the head and twice in the back, Detroit television station WDIV-TV reported.

Bender remains on life support.

Proof was a close friend of Detroit rapper Eminem and also a founding member of the rap group D-12.

theres a thing on mtv.com where u can post what u think of the murder and heres what i said :I am still in shock out of all the people he was the last i would suspect to go like this.He was always the fun and happy one u saw rollin with d12. I have been really upset and i have been litsening to his solo album searching for jerry garcia all day. its strange how death can make u feel and it needs to stop.But killing will never stop but for now we need to remember proof for his spirt and how he has impacted the rap game. I love his music and i will always remember him as a great mc and an inspiration.Watching toy soldiers is the weirdest thing now believe me...my best of wishes go out to em along with all proof's family and friends and i hope he can rest in peace.

yeah but, did he have to shoot 4 times, and twice in the head?!? he has no self defence, he wasnt attacked... there was only sticking up for a relative and protecting him, and he cant escape jail with that.... they gotta dump his fucked up ass in jail.. if they dont....INJUSTICE!!!

A 28-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting rapper Proof of D12 turned himself in today (April 12).

Mario Etheridge, 28, of Detroit is being detained by the police for allegedly shooting the rapper during an altercation inside of the C.C.C. nightclub.

Etheridge was also a bouncer at the C.C.C. nightclub.

Police said he is a cousin of Keith Bender Jr., the bouncer who was allegedly shot by Proof during the fight, which took place around 4:30 am Tuesday.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that the altercation was rooted in a pool game.

For unknown reasons, the men two began arguing and a fight broke out.

A shot was fired in the air, Proof allegedly pistol-whipped Bender, knocked him to the ground and then shot him.

Etheridge then allegedly open fire on the rapper, striking him four times in the head and chest.

Authorities are still investigating the incident, but police said the 28-year-old was cooperating with authorities.

Bender, a former Sgt. in the United States Army, is on life support in critical condition.

if the fight rly started from a game of pool.. thats rly fucked up.. he didnt deserve to die like that :'(

nah, i don't think they gonna let him go free.. you know, the whole hip-hop world won't let them do it. and if they set him free, he won't have easy life in Detroit now.. i'm sure about that. :angry:
