Following the success of Rap Phenomenon II: Tupac, DJ Vlad The Butcher recently teamed up with turntable expert Roc Raida and Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda for his latest mixtape, Rock Phenomenon.
While Vlad birthed the bulk of the concepts, Raida chopped up the original instrumentals as well as added drums and basslines to make a better fit. He also provides cuts while Shinoda hosts the CD.
Rock Phenomenon pairs up several emcees over classic rock tunes and vice versa. The set features the meeting of two music legends as Tupac Shakur spits over the piano composition of John Lennon`s classic, "Imagine." M.O.P. revisits Jimmi Hendrix's "Foxy Lady" on "G Building," while Ludacris spits over AC/DC's Back In Black" on "Get Back." Jay-Z rocks "99 Problems" over Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Give It Away."
Meanwhile, Korn sings over Snoop Dogg's "Murder Was The Case" and Hendrix sings over Eminem's "Superman." The CD also includes exclusive vocals from Shinoda, Talib Kweli and B. Real of Cypress Hill.
"These days, a lot of rock groups incorporate Hip-Hop into their sound, but what we wanted to do was go the other way," DJ Vlad told SOHH.com. "Me and Roc Raida took it from a Hip-Hop perspective, and showed what happens when you fuse rap with rock music."
