id rather they judge seperately, its just too hard to choose between genres.

i've seen rap on VH1, but i definitely agree that it's primarily a rock/pop channel n that it's not 12-year-olds who watch it (which is too bad for Em actually, cause then he'd be no. 1 on the list, but sadly not because of the lyrics) but for me that just makes it even nicer to see that there are actually a lot of good rappers represented on the list (n then of course 50...)

i agree with u on the last part especially because the style of the lyrics are so totally different when it comes to rap n rock - n then there's pop as well, which is yet another story

there u got my point.. (loosely)

Its just not right that a channel that clearly has no interest in rap music would rate lyrics make mistakes in qouting to claim U2 yet more popularity.

I have no problem with U2 and maybe there are people that were effected by them but it seems that there are a lot of channels and promoters who dickride them.

Its just that i came in this thread with the attitude because i have the same conflict at home every day, my father is a U2 fan and he keeps claiming its superioty in being maturity (in a musical way) then any rap artist, wen in reality its common stereotypes that he tends judge and as i imagine there prolly somewat simmiliar people that selected those.

I dont know about u curios but i see something being wrong wen a rapper who on the same if not less levels as rakim, jay z, notorius BIG and 2pacs level gets to be played more often on VH1 even though he raps about murdering people killing his wife ... I'll be blunt with this: i see eminem being white as the main reason that VH1 plays and places eminem on higher spot..

im sorry if u dont agreee with me but i bet everyone once had that in mind.

AspirinE wrote:Ive heard U2 albums before and their songs are filled with "yeah's"

that's cause u haven't listened to the good lyrics - n btw a lot of rap songs are filled with yeah's n yo's as well, so i don't think that argument holds

Lets say that people like u admire U2 were touched by their songs wat about the other millions wich are now majority that are inspired by rap songs

the other millions had the opportunity to cast votes as well - if the vote had been an MTV vote, the list would've looked very different

There are rap songs that expalin feeling in great detail and there are a lot of them that dont make the list simply coz of genre discrimination, coz rap is worker class music that speaks on wat really happens and people dont like to be reminded of that.

we absolutely agree that rap songs can be amazingly expressive when it comes to feelings, that's why i love rap myself but i don't think that ppl discriminate the genre because ppl don't like to be reminded of what's going on in the lower social ranks, it's because not all ppl can relate to it - another thing is that if all ppl could relate, rap would become mainstream n that would be the death of the genre as it is with all it's original n subversive qualities

saying that rapers should take all tops is just me being a little pissed off, if you try to understand wat i mean, ull understand were im going wit this.

i do know what u mean, i don't think rappers get the credit they deserve either, but ppl are entitled to listen to whatever kind of music they enjoy,
and i actually do think that a lot of the songs on the list have very good lyrics - at least britney spears n backstreet boys didn't take the no 1 spot

anyway nice to debate with u again hun :flower:

Mostly only crunk though, thats a whole useless chunch of rap music

I dont think either MTV or VH1 have the right to claim superiority for someone, coz they only judge pop.

Not only is rap expressive but in my opinion it is the best political type of music, its like and essay written to express the surrounding. And as ofcourse the poorer comunity is less heard of then than pop culture ofcourse it will touch less listners

Although britney prolly had more play on Vh1 than NaS.

i do think u have a very good point about Em getting played on VH1 because of his colour, and therefore his more mainstream appeal than 2pac n biggie n jay z n rakim - a lot of his fans just like him because he's funny n rebellious n don't even appreciate his flow n rhyming skills

i do think VH1 has the right to make a best lyrics poll though, i'm all for freedom of the press n no matter what media makes a poll they're always gonna be biased - MTV polls are decided by 12-year-old groupies who don't judge by quality at all.
