there are too many ignorant white old folks who dont like rap who would never rate REAL LYRICS like the ones rappers write to be better than U2

i mean i have no problem with rock and shit but in lyrics, rappers should have all the 1st spots coz thats the main thing in rap, as for the sound of the song and a persons abilities to play an instrument its another thing.

Most of these U2's and nirvanas will never be able to write rhymes like great rappers do.

ur right, the poll wasn't about who's the best rapper or has the best rap lyrics but who ppl thought had written the best, i.e. most meaningful, lyrics n ppl are not gonna be judging rhyming skills but the lyrics they feel speak to them in one way or another n considering the ratio of pop/rock listeners vs rap listeners, pop/rock lyrics are bound to win that poll

i'm a hip hop fan, but i'm also a huge fan of U2 n think they've written some great lyrics - the greatest aren't even on the list which again illustrates the problem of the list including only singles as killa pointed out.

i don't agree with asp that rap necessarily has the greatest lyrics - great lyrics are those that speak to u, hit a nerve with u, that capture n play on ur emotions, that give u a lump in ur throat or a total thrill n rock music might do that just as well as rap does

u didnt get my point...

if a rock artist breaks down one tupac song in 4 peices he can make 4 new songs and all of them will be branded the best coz they WILL speak to people.

A rock song can only make effect in the whole sound as in the music and the way they make the words sound.

A rap song concentrates on words.

wa just stating my opinion. I just hate discrimination between genres and stereotypes of wat is good and wats bad.

all good lyrics are storytelling, maybe not always literally n spelled out like in some of Em's lyrics but that's not what's important - for example U2's Love is Blindness tells my whole life story n that's why it speaks to me, One tells a part of my life story as well n that's why it speaks to me n to do that in a few sentences is no less clever to me than to do it in 70

:confusion: I don't like them that much..

There's a certain mystique when I speak, that you notice that it's sorta unique,
cos you know it's me, my poetry's deep, and I'm still matic the way I flow to this beat, you can't sit still, it's like tryin to smoke crack and go to sleep, I'm strapped

PROOF RIP..

Ive heard U2 albums before and their songs are filled with "yeah's".

Lets say that people like u admire U2 were touched by their songs wat about the other millions wich are now majority that are inspired by rap songs.

There are rap songs that expalin feeling in great detail and there are a lot of them that dont make the list simply coz of genre discrimination, coz rap is worker class music that speaks on wat really happens and people dont like to be reminded of that.

that is wat i was talking about..

saying that rapers should take all tops is just me being a little pissed off, if you try to understand wat i mean, ull understand were im going wit this.

i've heard rock songs sung a capella n they were very effectful so rock isn't just about the music - n rap is just as much about making the words sound in specific ways or getting the right beats n flow to them, it's not simply about the words themselves

when u say that rap is about real lyrics n rock isn't ur actually discriminating n stereotyping urself - it's not like ppl didn't vote for rap songs in the poll, the poll had nothing to do with discriminating genres or stereotyping what's good or bad but it was simply about which lyrics ppl enjoyed the most n i'm glad to see that Em's way up there on the list even though a large group of ppl don't even listen to rap cause he thoroughly deserves it

by the way, VH1 almost never played rap, coz u know a classic song can never bea rap song right? its amzing how ignorant they can be sometimes.

id rather they judge seperately, its just too hard to choose between genres.
