NY Radio Station Hot 97 In Process of Getting Evicted

Postby SNaKe » Apr 28th, '06, 21:12

The company that owns the building which houses New York's Hot 97 has divulged plans of evicting the hip-hop radio station following the recent shooting of Brooklyn rapper Gravy.

As previously reported, Gravy (born Jamal Woolard), was shot in the buttocks outside the building on Wednesday night after arriving for an interview. Despite his injury, Woolard did not seek treatment, but went into the studio to sit for an on-air interview with DJ Funkmaster Flex.

After the interview, Woolard was discovered wounded and limping by police and taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he was treated for a single gunshot wound and listed in stable condition.

"We've directed our attorneys to begin the eviction process" Stuart GraBois of The New York City District Council of Carpenters told The New York Daily News. "We're concerned about the safety of the public and of our other tenants."

According to New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, Gravy has been uncooperative with the police, but they have been able to identify a suspect and hope to make an arrest soon.

Since Gravy's shooting, extra police have been posted outside the Hot 97 building after New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg expressed concern.

When reached out to Hot 97 about the eviction threat, they released the following statement saying "While this incident took place outside the building before any station guests arrived at the studio, the security of our employees and neighbors is a paramount concern. We are assisting law enforcement in any way we can, and suggest you call them for any additional information."

Hot 97 has been plagued with shooting incidents in the past few years. Back in 2001, a shooting took place in front of the station between the entourages of Lil' Kim and Capone-N-Noreaga. When questioned about the shooting, Kim later denied the presence of two of her associates, which eventually led to her perjury and conspiracy conviction. She's presently still serving a one year and a day sentence in the Philadelphia Detention Center.

Last year, another shooting took place when The Game and his comrades attempted to enter the station to confront 50 Cent. 50 had announced to listeners that Game was being kicked out of his crew G-Unit minutes earlier. The incident resulted in Game's friend, Kevin Reed aka P-nut, 24, being shot in the leg.

On a lighter note, the station recently announced the lineup for its annual summer jam. This year's event will take place on June 4th and will boast performances by artists including Busta Rhymes, T.I., Three 6 Mafia, Mary J. Blige, Young Jeezy, Mobb Deep, Remy Martin, Sean Paul, Dipset and Jamie Foxx, among others.
