Shady Records & Kanye West Hosting Super Bowl Party

Postby SNaKe » Jan 10th, '06, 23:53

For Detroit's hip-hop connoisseurs, Super Bowl week is about to get a lot more super.

Eminem's Shady Records will host an A-list affair at the State Theatre on Feb. 4, the Free Press has confirmed, and Kanye West will lead a party at the venue two days earlier.

That means the State is set to become a leading hot spot for visiting rap royalty in a week packed with chichi shindigs.

D12, Obie Trice and Stat Quo are among acts scheduled to play Shady's Super Bowl-eve event. Insiders say that while label chief and D12 member Eminem is expected to attend the festivities, it is uncertain whether he will take the stage.

"It's safe to say the who's who of hip-hop will be attending this event," said a person involved with the Shady party. "It wouldn't be surprising to see a few of them end up on stage."

The State, just around the corner from Ford Field, is a popular venue that regularly hosts concerts by well-known rock and rap acts. But with a capacity of 3,000, it's also cozy enough to make a gathering of such star power a unique scene.

West, the Chicago rapper poised to win big at next month's Grammy Awards, will headline an event dubbed "Pepsi Smash at Super Bowl XL." It's the second time he has fronted the soda company's big bash: Last year West was joined by Big Boi and Ciara for Pepsi's Super Bowl party in Jacksonville, Fla.

Organizers have not yet determined if the Shady party will be open to the public, but they are meeting today to work out final details. Those involved spoke on the condition of anonymity because the event was still coming together.

Ticketmaster has created a page on its Web site for the West soiree, but has not yet issued ticket-purchase information.

Super Bowl week nightlife has been dominated in recent years by hip-hop's movers and shakers, and Detroit will be no exception. Sean (Diddy) Combs is hosting a major party Feb. 3 at downtown's Elysium club, and LL Cool J will perform at the Detroit Opera House the same night.
