LATEST: Jailed rapper LIL' KIM could be set for an early release from a federal detention centre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, if her recent charity efforts impress the courts.
The Lady Marmelade hitmaker's non-profit Lil' Kim Cares organisation hosted a Christmas toy giveway in December, distributing gifts to underprivileged children.
And the rapper's attorney, James Leonard Jr., is confident the success of the event, as well as her mild prison demeanour, could secure his client an early release date.
Lil' Kim is due for release on 2 August '06 but Leonard is hopeful the date could be brought forward by over a month.
He tells Allhiphop.com, "The charity event was a huge success and something that was very near and dear to Kim's heart.
"I think this entire experience has unearthed new depths for Kim, both as a person and an artist. I think you will see that in the direction she takes upon her release from prison."
He adds, "The warden and the staff at the federal detention centre have been great with Kim. She has neither sought nor received any special treatment. They have respected her privacy and have treated her extremely fairly."
In July (05), Lil' Kim, real name Kimberly Jones, was sentenced to a year and a day behind bars for lying to a federal grand jury about her knowledge of a 2001 New York City shootout.
