people say his commercial hits like "the real slim shady" and "without me" were the mistakes, or signing 50, working with jimmy iovine and interscope, or encore and whatnot...
but shit, once i think about it, i'm glad he did those things. i was lookin at the first eminem song thread and most of the ppl said the first song they heard was "the real slim shady". whether it was commercial or not, that song was HUGE and really launched his career. i'm glad he made that and released it.
and i'ma be real here for a moment cuz as much as 50 does annoy me...when he first came out, he was the hottest thing. everyone now says "oh, 50 sucks" or whatever, but i bet you were singing his songs from his first album. shit, i know i was. i loved "wanksta" and "in da club" and all them hits. the only really popular figure em's been asociated with is dre, and he's rarely in the spotlight anymore. so when he signed 50... i was happy that em was capable of making stars from his record company.
and i know lots of ppl don't like encore... but some of his best tracks come from there, so once again, i don't think that was a mistake either. cuz if he didn't releases that album, i wouldn't have "mockingbird", "evil deeds" or "like toy soldiers".
and one last thing... if em didn't work with jimmy, the person that GAVE his ep to dre, none of this would've happened. so be grateful for him too.
I agree with you there. Some of Em's songs may seem stupid, but they are what they are meant to be: "club/mtv" songs. The Real Slim Shady, Without Me, Just Lose It, are all just pointless jabs at celebrities that try to gain popularity before he releases his album with some of his better songs. 50 Cent may be a mistake now, but back then he was popular, in fact, he still is popular. He may be hated, but he's still selling tons of records and making tons of money.
That being said, I do think it's pretty Eminem overdid some of the silly songs on his new album (My first Single )
