VANCOUVER - A British Columbia man is suing the Pacific National Exhibition and four security guards for negligence, claiming he was assaulted at a concert by gangsta rapper 50 Cent at the Pacific Coliseum in late 2005.
Clayton Baker of Abbotsford is also suing the concert promoter, claiming an atmosphere of hostility was created by using violent imagery to promote the concert, thereby attracting a violent audience to the concert on Dec. 3, 2005.
The rapper 50 Cent, whose name is Curtis Jackson, has been accused of promoting gun violence, prompting politicians to call for a ban of the rapper touring Canada.
The lawsuit, filed in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver, claims Baker was mistaken for another patron attending the concert before he was grabbed, thrown to the ground and forcibly removed from the Pacific Coliseum.
Baker says the four security guards pinned his arms and legs and intentionally stepped on his right hand, fracturing a bone.
He claims he suffered bruising on his face, pain in his hand and shoulders, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, and has been unable to work as a labourer after the incident.
The plaintiff is seeking unspecified damages for his injuries. The defendants have not yet filed statements of defence to answer the allegations, which have to be proved in court.
