Busta Rhymes is expected to appear at Manhattan Criminal Court today ( May 8) to face two assault charges and a drunken driving charge he picked up last week.
As SOHH previously reported, Rhymes (born Trevor Smith) was stopped by officers around midnight on Manhattan, NY's west side on Thursday (may 3) because the SUV he was driving had overly tinted windows. Authorities claim they smelled booze on the rapper's breath and he was then taken into custody on a charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol. He would be released hours later on $7,500 bail.
The assault charges stem from two different incidents. In August, the rapper allegedly beat up a fan who purportedly spit on his car. He is also accused of assaulting his former driver, Eddie Hatchett, during a dispute over back pay.
In February, Manhattan Judge Tanya Kennedy offered him a plea deal that would have kept him out of jail if he plead guilty to both assault charges. She would withdraw her offer three days later after Busta was arrested for driving with a suspended license.
