Bad Meets Evil - Hell: The Sequel Track-By-Track Review

Postby xxTrigger1989xx » Jun 4th, '11, 23:25

Good evening, TR. (Or not, depending on where you live...)

This will be my first ever, full track by track review on this site. I've listened to the EP several times, now, and now I feel it is time to start the review. For the sake of the review accuracy, I will listen to the EP one more time while writing my review for each song. I hope you enjoy, and feel free to post your thoughts and opinions on the review. Constructive criticism is welcome, being a dick head isn't. So, without further adieu, I will begin the review.

1. Welcome 2 Hell - The track opens with a creepy piano, with what sounds like spirits in the background, along with what sounds like fire. Eminem speaks, and says that he told you (everyone) that they (BME) would be back. He then says "Welcome to hell..." and the beat kicks in. The atmospheric production captures the feeling that we are being pulled into a different world. Eminem has the first verse, and he opens it well. His flow sounds all over the place and schizophrenic, and to be honest, I love it. His punchlines seem to be a million times better than they were. After his verse, Royce starts his verse. He spits well, also, but for some reason he doesn't seem to shine like he should on this track, and I will say that a lot for the whole EP. Eminem outshines him often on the EP. That doesn't mean his verse wasn't good, it was actually pretty good compared to a few of his other verses. After his verse, then we repeat. Get a similar second verse from Em, and Royce goes slightly harder than he did during his first verse. Then, the track gets crazy as they trade lines. Overall, it is a great opener, great beat from Havoc once again, and I hope Eminem continues to use him. :y:

Favorite line: Other words, I ain't put a dent in the game, compared to the damage I have yet to do/
As long as you still have feelings to hurt, I'll be around, as long as you let me get to you.

Rating: 8.5/10

2. Fast Lane - The first single. I don't really feel like reviewing this song, to be honest, lmao. It's not a bad song, but compared to the rest of the EP, it's actually quite underwhelming. A decent beat from Supa Dups (I think that's his name?), Eminem and Royce trade punchline verses pretty much. We've all heard it. Eminem delivers a funny line about sticking his dick up Nicki Minaj's ass, and all that good stuff. It's an alright song, but like I said, it's underwhelming compared to the rest of the songs.

Favorite line: You don't suck my dick, then you're gonna get decapitated/
Other words you don't fucking give me head then I'ma have to take it!

Rating: 6.5/10

3. The Reunion - The song opens with Eminem talking again, and then he sings a little bridge. The beat then opens up, and it sounds like American Psycho to me, I don't know about you guys. Eminem has the first verse. His voice reminds me of MMLP as he delivers one of his best deliveries since his comeback. While the EP is dominated by the aggressive, loud rapping (which I think is dope on the EP), this track features Eminem using a slower flow as well as an improved voice. Instead of trying to kill the beat, he rides the beat. We get a glimpse back at the old Shady, as there is crazy storytelling in Eminem's verses. He talks about picking up a girl and blasting Relapse in his car. She doesn't like it and breaks the CD in the second verse. Em gets pissed, calling her a bitch and slut, and while this is the same old woman-hating Em, I love it on this track. He then slides on ice on the road and the girl flies out of the car while Eminem laughs and crashes into a club. Royce talks about pulling up to a club and getting approached by a girl. They talk and Royce acts like an asshole to her (lol) and she gets mad he doesn't make songs for women. He says he makes songs for himself, and fucks the bitch who makes the songs (big lol). Royce's next verse starts as he's trying to break up a fight between his mistress and wife, and then a fat chick wanted a huge and he only dapped her (lol). He talks about girl's asses as his mind starts to wonder, and then he snaps back to reality. He sees his wife, pushes her down and slaps the mistress (lmao). The police show up and he goes outside to see Eminem as he crashed into the club. Eminem mugs the mistress, turns around and kisses the wife, then looks at Royce and says "Watch this shit!" and smacks the shit out of the fat bitch he was rolling with and then says "It's good to be back in business", thus...that is The Reunion. Yes, I went into this song a lot because it's my favorite song from this album. Royce spit fire too and stuck to the story excellently, both of them kill it. Classic track, IMO.

Favorite line: I honestly like everything lmao.

Rating: 10 (or 9.5)/10, for the rare storytelling we get from Em these days. :y:

4. Above The Law - Claret Jai (the girl from Furiously Dangerous) opens up the song with the hook. She talks about the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer, and how fucked up it is. Then she says she'll break every rule. The beat is one of the best from the EP, and Eminem opens up with the first verse, and honestly he spits fire. He actually does yell on the track, but his flow and lyrics are so dope that I ignore it. He also sounds genuinely pissed towards the end of his verse. Royce has the second verse, as he spits fire as well, but not quite up to Eminem's level. His flow is excellent, and when he speeds up his flow for that brief moment, that was very dope. He says a lot of the same that he always says, not that that is a bad thing. :y:

Favorite line: Someone let the cat out the bag, now it's time to stuff its face/
Back in (I honestly don't know what he says next) motherfucker 'til it suffocates

(Yes, I know even though it's my favorite line from the song, I don't know what he says at that one part lol...I just really like how it sounds, and I think I get the gist of what he's saying)

Rating: 8.5/10

5. I'm On Everything - I really liked this song before the EP leaked, but for some reason, up against the rest of the songs, it really is the worst from the album. I like the song still, but it truly is mediocre compared to the other songs. You've all heard it, no point in a review.

Favorite line: Bitch, it's on again yeah..........until the accent line, pretty much my signature (ATM, it will change when I figure out my favorite line (s) from the EP.

Rating: 5.5/10 (matched up to the rest of the songs, that is my rating. As a separate track, I would say 6.5)

6. A Kiss - An extremely bass-heavy beat by Bangladesh immediately starts, as the typical weird noises and drum rolls are in the background. Difference between this beat and his other beats? Not much, but I like it, it's alright. The hook is typical Bangalesh, as it's repetitive and somewhat annoying. But, I don't like to music for the hooks. Royce opens up the first verse, talking about bitches and how he's too cool for them, and then Eminem jumps in and brings one of his strangest (not a bad thing) flows at first, as he's rapping quietly, and then he gets slightly more aggressive as he goes to talk about girls as well. The annoying hook comes in, then Em opens up the second verse, saying how he doesn't want a relationship (relationshit, as he put it) and shit like that. And then he goes on to diss several pop stars such as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and I thought I heard a Beiber line somewhere? Anyway, decent enough track.

Favorite line: The Gaga line. :smoking: Made me laugh my ass off.

Rating: 8/10

7. Lighters - Not reviewing, but I will give my thoughts on the song. It's a good song, but...it doesn't belong on the EP, in my honest opinion. It sounds so out of place that it's ridiculous. The song by itself, though, it's a great song. One of my least listened to songs so far on the EP, though.

Favorite line: And pardon me if I’m a cocky prick but you cocks are slick/
Poppin shit on how you flipped ya life around, crock-of-shit/
Who you dicks try to kid, flipped dick, you did the opposite/
You stayed the same, cause cock backwards is still cock you pricks

Rating: 8.75/10

8. Take From Me - The beat sounds like a Recovery left-over, sorta, but the track itself is anything BUT a left-over. And I do like the beat. Claret Jai is on another hook, and she kills it. Like Lighters, it's an introspective track. The song is basically their frustrations at people disrespecting them by stealing their music, but both of their verses are great. This review is gonna be slightly shorter, because I kinda need to finish it quick lol. Sorry people.

Favorite line: I break my back to give you my art/
You steal my thoughts, it's like driving a spike through my heart

Rating: 9/10

9. Loud Noise. Crazy track, crazy beat. Unfortunately, Eminem spits an underwhelming and short verse, making way for Slaughterhouse (and Royce) to shine on the track. A straight up raw, rap song, punchlines every where. Each member of SH kills it, and Em does do good, but not as good as he did earlier on in the EP. Don't have much time, so take my word for it, it's a decent closer to the album. :y:

Favorite line: The entire first part of Eminem's first verse is awesome, until he goes (chicka chicka). Sorry once again, but have no time to listen for the lyrics to be right...sorry once again people.

Rating: 7.5/10

So there ya go, I reviewed the main EP. Overall, it surprised the fuck outta me how good it was. Eminem spit a BUNCH of a great lines, as did Royce. I hope they work some more on the BME project and eventually make a full album. :y:

Final Rating: 8.5/10 (my unbiased view)
9/10 (my Stan view)

Hope you all enjoyed. :D

Yeahh you made it! :D

Overall, we have the same views. My favorite tracks in order are : The Reunion, Welcome 2 Hell, Take from me and Above the law.
I liked the favorite lines you picked up, but I also loved the "Saddam and Ossama" line in Welcome 2 Hell, it made me laugh out loud.

Eminem could have done better on Loud Noise though, even if he has a good flow, Crooked takes it. Plus, the screaming in Above the law was actually perfect and i'm glad he used it there because it fits perfect.

thanks for reviewing it, it was a cool read! :y: :y:

I'm gonna update my A Kiss rating. I think it's easily an 8-8.5 track now. :y:

I'm going with 8, though, since I gave Welcome 2 Hell 8.5 ( I honestly want to say 9 now...second favorite track), and W2H is bad ass.
