Hell: The Sequal (Reidy Review)

Postby K Reidy » Jul 14th, '11, 21:28

So after reading Lello's review, I thought I would do my own... no need for a long intro lets just jump into it...

1. Welcome 2 Hell (9/10)
Just about the perfect intro to this EP... I really like the dark beat, the flow, the rhymes, both emcees really held there own on this track and I have trouble seperating them on who was better for this track.

2. Fast Lane (8/10)
Like many, I wasn't really a big fan of this song when it first dropped. The hook was a little upsetting... "who was this wanna be Nate Dogg?" I thought to myself. I think Royce was better then Em on this song, however Royce's first verse was pretty wack... but I guess he saved the better stuff as the song progressed. Still love Em's verse when he talks about anally fucking Nicki Minaj and makes a soccer reference... I would have thought I wrote that verse!

3. The Reunion (9/10)
THIS is what Bad Meets Evil is all about. If you think otherwise, go fuck yourself. "You just used the word swagger, so no" fuckin great. So many things I could pick out from this song... but the whole song is great. I hope I hear more stuff like this in the future. Brilliant.

4. Above The Law (8/10)
I'm not a big fan of sampled hooks that Eminem has used so much lately (mostly the male voice on Recovery) but I really like this hook. I wasn't a fan of this song at first, but after a few listens it grew on me. Both Em and Royce hold it down yet again. It's an overall dope song and deserves some replay value.

5. I'm On Everything (ft. Mike Epps) (7/10)
Unlike many on this website, I'm not going to hop on the bandwagon of hating on this song. I think it's pretty dope, and still funny. I love the tiger in the bathroom line from Royce. The only real problem with this song is I've gotten a little bit tired of the hook but if you don't listen to this song more than once a day, you won't have that problem.

6. A Kiss (7/10)
Really not a fan of this beat or hook. I love the verses from both emcees which is what saves the song for me... but I really don't lilke Bangeldesh beats... and the way he tags all of his beats at the start of em.Props to Em coming at some celebs again like the good ol' days.

7. Lighters (ft. Bruno Mars) (5/10)
To be honest, this isn't a bad song by any means... I would probably give it about a 7 if it wasnt for the fact that Bruno Mars should not be anywhere near this EP besides getting made fun of on "A Kiss". Although I would have to say this is my least favorite Royce verse of all time... and Em's flow sounds a bit forced...

8. Take From Me(8/10)
I feel like if this song was earlier on the EP I would rate it a lil higher. By this point, I was pretty tired of hearing so many featured/sampled hooks I think it's bad that Em only did one hook on this and Royce only did one hook on it. Aside, I do like this hook as well as the real verses both emcees spit on this.

9. Loud Noises (ft. Slaughterhouse) (8/10)
I notice a lot of people hating on this song and the beat of it and I just don't understand why. I know its not one of Royce's better verses, but the rest of the song is dope. The sample of Brick at the start always gets me hyped up. Not a fan of Joe's flow on this song, like I said before it sounds real studdery. But I love this beat and the song overall. Killer from most of them

10. Living Proof (6/10)
Not a fan of this beat, not a fan the hook and not a fan of Em's verse. I do however really like Royce on this song (Minus the hook) We've all been hearing this song for awhile so theres not much else to say. Not my favorite from BME... No substance but nothing that really wows me like some of the other songs they did for this EP

11. Echo (9/10)
I've seen some hate on this song because of the hook but I love it. It's another one that really pumps me up and the bit of edits they put in for this finalized version is great with the little intro part before the verses. Maybe this is just one of those that some love some hate. But both hold there own down on this song and I think it's a good ending to the EP (bonus track or not)

Overall, I was pretty happy with this EP. The only overall downer for this was that it was an EP and not an LP... adding about five or six other songs would have been awesome and I pray that we get a Bad Meets Evil LP in the future... although I'm sure that won't happen till afer Royce, Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf, D12 and Eminem all drop albums. But I can always hope! Cheers :b:

Nice read dude, It's always great to hear other people's opinions.
Then again, mine are pretty negative when it comes to this album sadly.
So I won't bother.

You should post your thoughts! Even if they are negative others opinions can open the door for other people

Well, I basically didn't love the feel of each track in general...No nostalgia hits at all..Maybe briefly in some songs..I just didn't like the whole modernization of the record is all..That's basically what ruined the album for me.
But Em's lyrics are breathtaking..So is Royce's..
That sort of evens it all out. I would of thought the album would of been more epic with a intro with sounds of demons and shit.

You're right about Lighters, but I don't think it was Bruno that ruined it. Royce's verse was horrible, and Em sounded awkward as fuck, with halfway decent lyrics.

for some people, NOTHIN eminem ever drops will be good enough..

if its not 98-02 slim... it sucks!!!!!!!!!

to me...this EP is great....

welcome to hell - em and royce body a havoc beat... the back n forth on the last verse, is some of the best back n forth ive heard in years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats what i really like about this project... the back n forth...

you can tell they were in the lab together piecing up the madness..

fast lane is a classic emcee exhibition... both mash that with incredible flows, and again, the back n forth!!!!!!!!!!!!

the reunion.... .. em got the zombie muzik beat tape laying around... eminem is pumping sid roams in between alex da kid records... em knows whats up... THEY DESTROY THIS BANGER!!!!!!!!!! this is classic shady man... took me back... the carnival hook... driving around with a nagging bitch... dark, humorous story.. with the ol conversational style that made slim rich... em slapping the bitch for dissing relapse...

that bruno mars track is complete trash.. made me laugh... so out of place, reaching for a hit... they got it... notice what sounds are HOT when youre targeting the buying public in 2011... candy land status... waiting in line to meet mickey mouse music is the only chance you have at making money in 2011!!!!!!!!!!!

im on everything is a classic drug track... if you never been out your face youll prolly hate on that record....

royce dismantled this EP... royce put em through the stress test...

em sounds hungry... hes got the humor goin, the flows cookin, the cinematic style is coming back...

royce got slim back on track...

i wanna see them put out an LP at some point.... they were cutting random here and it came out dope!!!!!!!!!!!

em sounds like hes in an entirely different head space than he was during recovery.....not that recovery is bad, he just actually sounded like he was having fun here for the first time in years!!!!!

Amadeo wrote:Just to really highlight how bad Royce's verse is in Lighters:

I don't gotta stop the beat a minute to tell Shady I love him the same way that he did Dr Dre on The Chronic. Tell him how real he is or how high I am, or how I would kill for him for him to know it. I cried plenty tears, my daddy got a bad back, so it's only right that I write 'till he can march right into that post office and tell 'em to hang it up, now his career's Lebron's jersey in twenty years

Royce forgot that rappers are supposed to rhyme in their lyrics, rather than write shitty prose. It's also cool that the only rhymes in this whole section are four bars apart.

Yeah, and it's sad because I LOVE what he chose to talk about in his verse, like people not wanting to work with him and Eminem on the Chronic...

But I just don't see why he didn't rhyme more :facepalm
