But if I had to pick two? Kill You and STGAF for me
the adrenaline, the catchiness, the way they both flow so naturally. Especially with the former, the humour and the delivery are just perfection. I don't know anyone who won't spend the day rapping the hook to Kill You after listening to it.
This topic for me could go on considerably, because I think it's easier to look at Em's worst hooks, rather than his best ones. I have to say though, his most recent hooks have gone considerably down-hill. Stan is a perfect example of a brilliantly chosen sample which included a hook that fit the track so perfectly. In his recent hooks (where samples have been used) it feels like he's rummaged through a bag of them, found the best ones, and decided to rap to it. They don't feel seemless, and they don't 'feel' like Em. He used to have an idea, work with it and focus on the topic. Yes, he prefers having the beats to work with (and, in many cases, a hook to work with too) but I don't think the material he's currently using is of a good-enough standard to maintain the rawness of his original pieces. Take Remember Me (OK, it has no hook) but it feels underground. Now contrast this with Almost Famous,
and it feels like some machined-piece of pop-rap (with lyrics that don't match the tone at all). Stan, as I alluded to earlier, is a work of genius: a pop-chorus which was mutilated so expertly. And yes, the very meaning of the song was manipulated in this way, but the genius behind it is undeniable.
