Both...
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

They're actually the complete opposite. YNO is celebrating his life, whilst Difficult is mourning his death.

And I prefer Difficult too, I just feel like his Proof dedication has to be sad and the track feels much more human. YNO has that fucking pop beat and I just don't feel it, despite it's lyrical brilliance.

They are opposite in lyrical sense but the concept is still there..And yes..Fuck the beat of YNO.. :y:

Lyrically, You're Never Over takes this. But the chorus just keep me from not wanting to listen to it too often

But, as an overall song...Difficult, definitely. One of the deepest songs ever

Both are necessary in his catalog, Difficult being the sad song and You're Never Over being an upbeat celebration of Proof's life

They're almost incomparable because of the fact "Difficult" is Em mourning his death and "You're Never Over" is him celebrating his life.

I love "You're Never Over" but it's kind of spoiled but that 1st verse. Which is lyrically good but, has nothing to do with Proof, it's about himself.

He often does that, starts out irrelevant to the song / about himself then gets more zoned in as the song progressed ("Mosh" for example), but he should go back and re-write them 1st verses.

Also, it would of been good to have a "Difficult" type song at the beginning / near the beginning of Recovery and "You're Never Over" near the end. And if the album was more properly structured in that fashion, the title Recovery would then make even more sense and I think the album would be more valid.

The production alone nearly kills "You're Never Over" though. Em should of always produced ANY Proof tribute. "Difficult" production >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Recovery. Just imagine how much better those songs would sound and the album would be if Em had produced it all.

Quality pianos and strings, real music. Instead of tacky drums and sampled crap.

You're never over was good, it wasn't bad. But I feel like he could do better. Mourning his death wasn't really a good idea for him and i can understand why, but i think it would fit better in Recovery.

Like he said it himself, it's an emotional album. And You're never over is not that emotional, i mean, the lyrics are but his flow sounds like he's rapping about punching someone in the face.

Difficult is sad, it's like a letter to proof. It's full of emotions and it blows up every sad track he has made. (not lyrically, rock bottom is the best for that) but his flow makes you feel how he's depressed.

I'm glad it leaked, and no i'm not gonna say "we should never hear that" because i wanted it and i don't regret it. It's hard to listen though.

Btw, did Eminem have some beef or whatever with proof's wife? "but Sharonda actually talks to me now"
maybe she didn't like him or something.

Those opening bars are fucking great. Pretty much sums up the whole song right there. He's going pretty crazy with the rhymes in the first verse, just what Proof would've wanted: off of this course/all for the sport/talkin' awards/balls in my court/balls in your shorts/jaws on the floors/stoppin' the force/moppin' the floors/droppin' the torch/knock on them doors/up on your porch

Yeah that opening line is great but then lines like...

Just Blaze and me we are knockin' them doors

Just have no place in the song lmao. They're the type of things he would say in an average battle-rap song. It should all be about Proof. I mean come on, a dedication to your best friend that you've tried over and over ti get right, and you mention bloggers and the track's producer? That's tacky.

Also, it's not the actual 80s sample I have a problem with.

It's just something about Just Blaze's production there, and all those producers that sounds 'cheap' to me. Em uses live instrumentation and comes up with new melodies etc. and even Dre's... I don't know, I'm not a producer - all I know is, Em / Bass Bro / Dre beats sound like real music to me.

They sound 'full' and loud, they sound proper. Where as that beat sounds like... toy music.

Just Blaze has some good beats, but he samples waaaay too much

I think Em should really go back to producing his own music. His music was a million times better during TES and 8 Mile when he produced most of his shit himself

100% Agree with Amadeo.

No doubt difficult is brimming with emotion, but just as a lot of people have been saying rapping isn't all about metaphors, wordplay, etc it also isn't all about emotion.
His flow was pretty chill, I dig that. Also the beat was nice, but that's it really.

YNO had plenty of emotion as well imo, especially the second verse.
The hook isn't as bad to me as it is to some of you guys and I just overall enjoy the structure of the verses.

If Difficult was mastered Id probably bump it a little more but YNO is still my shyt.

Difficult is a good song, raw and straight from the heart...sounds good and is unfinished

whereas Youre Never Over is just a badly executed song and isn't very enjoyable to the ears

therefore, Difficult is a better song
ahead of my time, in my prime, one of a kind, out of my mind

You can't compare these two songs, they're complete opposites.

I don't like the way people compare them automaticly because they're both about Proof.

You're Never Over is about rejoycing Proofs life while Difficult mourning it.

There's nothing wrong with saying Difficult is better than YNO, even though I strongly disagree

But saying You're Never Over lacks emotion? I mean, what?

His voice almost cracks at times he's so emotional, adding to effect of the song. The second verse is one of the most important verses of his career, easily. His flow is so passionate, his rhymes so intricat that you can tell how much he put into the song, how much he wanted to make it perfect for Proof. He managed to make a non-cliched tribute, virtually impossible.

I reckon Em took a long, long time crafting the 2 verses on YNO and that just makes it so much more special to me. The fact every part of the song was crafted in a way for Proof. I agree with Amadeo that I'm sure the first verse contains lots of private jokes.

The concept of rapping his ass of for Proof is wonderful and so touching. Even though I'm not a fan of the beat, I think it works well for the concept of celebrating Proof's life.

YNO is far more emotional than DIfficult, IMO.

I prefer You're Never Over. Difficult is just difficult to listen to, and not just because of how sad and depressed he was. But if only You're Never Over had a better chorus, I'd enjoy the song so much more lol.
