Cinderella Man

I thought it was good during the first couple months of Recovery, but now I think this is a bona-fide classic. There's just so much to like about this song. First of all, the intro is glorious. It actually feels as if a boxer is returning to the ring after being gone for so long, and ready to kick ass. The whole structure of the song is great and it keeps it fresh from beginning to end. The "Cinderella Man Cinderella Man" here and there are great, and the hook is funny. The beat hits hard too. Lyrics are no slouch either. Em flows so well over this beat, and it makes use of some of his best punchline ammo (My filet's smoking weed, yeah faggots the stakes are high"!)

The best thing about this song is easily the energy. Fucker sounds hungry as fuck, and the whole song has this "mystical", uplifting tone to it, I can't help but love it. Is not my favorite from Recovery, but is by far my most played. Currently my "theme" song.

If "Stadium Music" had a definition, Cinderella Man would be it.

It's in my top 3 favorites from the album. Amazing 2nd verse. I love it. The "stakes are high" punchline is great.

Just one thing.

I can't tell which part is a chorus between the 1st and 2nd verse..it sounds like a longer than usual chorus.
"This dude doing this interview wants me to spin a few,
Lyrics while I tie my tennis shoes in the nude
A romantic interlude in a livin’ room,
In an inner tube with a dude with a bit of lube
Fuck that I’m sniffin’ glue, sippin' gin & juice,
And a little bit of paint thinner with my dinner too,
You better pay me for my bars like your rent is due,
Now hurry up and finish dude before I finish you."

Great :y:

Really pumps me up, and his flow is fucking spot-on. One of the best off of Recovery :worship:

His punchlines are actually great on this song too

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

Would like to quote what embase said earlier.

EminemBase wrote:Song is awesome.

It feels like a sister track to "Till I Collapse".

In terms of the lyricism, the main theme about the song is about stopping time with his music. As the chorus says "Music is my time machine".

So Em probably heard that in the chorus and drew most of the lyricism from that. Hence why he cuffs the hands of time and other metaphysical things in various spots to suggest he can stop time. Another example is when he says...

"Rewound the future to the present, paused it - Don't ask how / Fuck the past mother fucker, he's the shit right now"

Which is one of my favourite lines on the album. The flow, lyrics, concept.... The entire song is just awesome I don't know how an Em fan could really dislike it. "I SHUT YOUR LANE DOWN, TOOK YOUR SPOT PARKED IN IT TOO".

It's also (like many things on the album / including the 'box' cover) a multi-dimensional metaphor. Aside from stopping time and thus 'Cinderella Man' because of that, it also works as a metaphor in terms of him coming back against the odds. As it was the nickname of a former pro heavyweight who career-wise faced a similar situation as Em at one point.

Which seems far too relevant to be a conscience. So am sure Em is aware of it.

So there's multiple metaphors and themes going on. The production, sounds good to me, the lyricism is top-notch, the idea is golden and the flow is badass. Can't see what's not to like.
