Generally, I hear a lot of talk about how Encore is Eminem's worst album. Though that may be true, I've recently listened to the whole album again and I've been wanting ask..

Do you think that some of Eminem's Encore songs were good enough to match the level of his Eminem Show songs?

I'm not just talking about 'Like Toy Soldiers' though. I'm talking 'Yellow Brick Road' and 'Encore/Curtains Down'. There's also songs like 'Never Enough' and 'Puke' (minus the actual puking at the beginning and end.) Some of these songs, in my opinion, have a TES feel to them and before I had actually bought all of his albums, I thought most of these songs were actually on The Eminem Show. Do you guys have any similar thoughts?

There's plenty. Encore is grossly underrated, just because of 3 or 4 songs.

Encore is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

It starts off very strong, the middle portion is fucked but it ends strong again...and honestly, it would have been great had the intended songs not leaked and pissed Em off. It's a shame.

In my opinion, too many people are reluctant to say something bad about the album, and result to just critiquing the bad parts, but praising the parts that weren't a total train wreck.

That should not be the case, the songs that are decent-good on Encore are not Eminem material, imo

I'm actually happy the album was release in the state it was. Had it been released in the way originally intended, it would have been a very awkward Album: not as good as his previous ones, but not bad enough to be reflective of the period in which Em fell off completely. It would certainly have made his music post-release a lot more complacent, had he received favourable reviews.

It would have also been a boring album. There would be no real humorous tracks, and similarly no Kill-You or The Way I am style records. (I'm not saying the album had these tracks, but I can get some laughs from Puke/My First Single).

At the end of the day, there was no chance he would top his previous works in 2004.

One thing that always bugs me about Encore is how simple the lyrics are compared to the lyrics on his other CDs.

Eminem's songs have a complexity to them. But on Encore a lot of the songs are more silly. Not Slim Shady silly, just stupid cartoon fart joke humor silly(My first Single). And then there's "Ass Like That". The fact that ALT became a single and got a music video is just sad. And then there's "Big Weene".

It's not so much that Encore is a bad music CD, it's a bad Eminem CD. After the SSLP, MMLP, and TES, he really had to step up and he failed to do so.

i see encore as a good pop album, but a bad rap album.
good compared to most albums in 05.
bad compared to em's classics.

Encore gets a lot of hate, but I'm not sure why. It's his worst album, yeah, but it's still good. I don't like the singles & the silly ass songs on it--but it has it's gems as well. Love you more, Yellowbrick road, we as americans, ricky ticky tok, spend some time, Like toy soldiers, Mockingbird.

This. I still think it's his worst album though. It's really not even a bad album. Just a few really bad songs for Em's standards.

It's an absolutely horrible album and none of the those song are even close to TES level.

We have this thread every few months. Can we stop trying to make out like it's not fucking awful? It's not because of a 'few bad songs', the whole album is dire.

How anyone can listen to it and claim it's not bad is beyond me.

I read somewhere that the song "Bully" was going to be on Encore, but the whole album leaked so he replaced it with Big Weenie.

Oh and, Encore has so many good songs, Mosh ( Am i the only one who likes this song? ) We As Americans, Never Enough, Yellow Brick Road, Puke, Like Toy Soldiers, Encore/Curtains Down. Maybe I'm weird but I really like Rainman too. The only song I hate is My 1st Single.

TES was so much better though.
