The Reunion

Postby JustEnjoytheMusic » Jun 5th, '12, 21:25

When I first heard it, I just went past it without appreciation. Now I could kick my own ass for doing that. I've just rediscovered it a few days ago and have been listening to it ever since several times a day.

Great song and it leads to one of the few times I'm being a bit of a Youtube Stan (you know those annoying guys who write, "The song begins at ..." and only listen to Eminem's parts) when it comes to this. Not because Royce is bad in this song - their "conversations" add something special to it - his verse is good (though I'm a bit sceptical about the lyricism. I'll need to analyze that, but am too tired to do so) and I laughed at the "swagger" line, but the voice Eminem is using is simply mesmerizing.
It's also great storytelling, you almost feel as if you are in that car. The background sounds add to that.

His Relapse references are geat too.
"she told me to quit calling her cunt, I said I can't/cunt" (I laughed outright).

"oh you can't read and you can't write, you told me that last night" - the voice he's using at this point is just haunting. A mixture of condescending and false compession, the exact emotion he wanted to express, I guess.
"I laughed like she deserved it / she didn't think I'd act like this in person" - again that voice.

And I love that hock. I've been singing it under my breath the entire day (which earned a couple of bewildered looks).

So... Great song :flower: . One of the best on the CD.

Thoughts?

Irony: Eminem uses the word "swagger" in one of his verses on BME H:TS, but I can't tell off the top which one it is. Something about "I got my swagger back".

I had a little theory about that, you could say it's a reach but it always bugged me.

:-k. You know, I wouldn't be too surprised if that theory is true...
Eminem has a talent of messing with your head, even these days if you really bother to listen. The amounts of rumour concerning subliminial disses are countless and led to more discussions than an out-right diss would have done, while his Illuminati reference on 2.0 Boys got the entire Youtube-Illuminati-conspiracy-theorists buzzing. I mean if you read the comments there... 80% of the comment discuss his (K)Iluminati line. It was clever.

Way off-topic. What are your thoughts on The Reunion?

I love The Reunion but it's not really my favorite track.

I would like him to use that laidback flow in his next album though, because it's really chill and easy to the ear. At first, I thought he produced the beat because it seemed like the type of beat he would've produced in his early days.

That hook is one of the reason as why he should sing his own hooks on his next albums, seriously, it's catchy as fuck. And the content was pretty good I think, since there might be more than just him talking to a hoe.

Anyway, it's like my second/third favorite song on H:TS. :y:

"She didn't think I'd act like that in person" was so dope-ly delivered. I love this song, loved it from day 1. A standout track from Em since his comeback. Really takes me back to 2000.

Ive always loved this song, thought this was more HTS than most of the tracks in terms of what I expected the album to include. Ems verses are dope and hilarious, love his relapse references and still think hes portraying the girl to be mariah.

Nevertheless I enjoy it and have always enjoyed it, great track from both of them!

The Reunion's definitely in my top 10 favorite Em songs of all time... this is one of the only hooks on the album I actually liked, I love the little Relapse references & the storytelling, and

actually i think royce did better on this track. his lines were hilarious, while many of em's lines seemed like a rehash of something he's done before. however, i do like how eminem was speaking favorably of Relapse rather than apologizing profusely for it.
