Berzerk

Postby Kill You » Sep 7th, '13, 14:47

Put your actual, full reviews of the song in here. Tell the forum what you truly think about it.

The song kicks off with Eminem rapping a pretty typical verse for an Eminem verse. Throws Da Vinci and Ren and Stimpy references in there. It goes into a fairly catchy chorus, perhaps one of his most catchy since his comeback, and then comes the second verse. The second verse is all over the place, where he's pretty much poking fun at rappers who "joke rap" or just rhyme words while not really talking about anything in particular. The lyrics of the second verse actually aren't that bad, it's just how he delivers it. I believe that he mocks Nicki Minaj in this verse. Then the third verse, where the infamous ugly Kardashian and Lamar O shot are placed. It's a great, very entertaining verse.

Now, production. It's wonderfully produced. It gives off a real old school, Beastie Boys vibe that I'm really digging. And the DJ scratches in the middle of the song, fucking fantastic. It sort of gives me that MMLP vibe because MMLP actually used guitars quite often. The beats on that album were more hip hop oriented, sure, but I believe that this song will be one of the few "rock-ish" type songs on this album. Or maybe he named it MMLP 2 because it HAS a rock vibe? We'll see. But I really love the production, it's sharp, crisp, and powerful.

As a single, I think this song works to throw people off. Not Afraid sounded nothing like the rest of Recovery, to me anyway, and was among the worst songs on the album. We Made You sounded nothing like the album. My Name Is, The Real Slim Shady, Without Me, and Just Lose It sounded nothing like their albums. I feel like it will be the same way with Berzerk.

Survival is better than it from a mere lyrical standpoint, but just as an overall song...Berzerk works and is awesome. 8/10.

I'll keep it short. I really liked Berzerk. I felt like for a while now, Eminem has been trying to be someone he wasn't instead of just having fun and being himself. I like that he's experimenting with a new sound.

Sure, it's not lyrical. It doesn't have to be. It's okay to put out a fun song every once in a while. Basically, Berzerk was everything I wanted from a post-recovery single. But, after Berzerk, he definitely should get more lyrical.

This. Great review. I'm more interested in the 2nd single right now. I love Berzerk though.

I like Berzerk, but it its my least favorite first single, besides Not Afraid.

I like the samples. I like how it sounds new, and different. A lot of people say it sounds like old Eminem, I can see it, but it isn't the old Eminem. It's a mix between Relapse, Recovery and MMLP, imo. I'm very curious to see what the album is like, I have very high expectations and I believe there is very high potential.

I fucking worship this song. He successfully pulled off the experimentation with the new sound in Berzerk. Everything about this song is so good and just what i expect from Em. Plus its miles better than Just Lose it and We Made You as a funny first single. All good signs for the album. At first few listens i found the song pretty awkward and had also wasnt much fond of survival. BUT surprisingly both grew on me tremendously. Both are growers. And that is the type of music that Em should make. Music that ages well. Unlike Recovery. I can honestly see Berzerk and Survival getting more and more love after a passage of time. To me personally, all this sounds like an indication to Em delivering a classic. cant wait.
anyways, overall Berzerk rating: 9/10.

Joking aside.

I really had high expections before the song premiered. The snippets blew me away and I wanted to hear the entire song so bad. When it happened, I listened to it closely and when it was over I was like : "Okay, that's not what I expected, but I can't say i'm disappointed". Then I listened to it again and again while taking a look at the lyrics and explanations on Rapgenius. And all I can say is that it grows on you really really fast. It's so catchy, funny, and well produced that you can't objectively say it's a bad song.
Lyrics are not the best Em ever did (he's not saying particularly interesting things) but the rhyme scheme is stunning, his voice is original, special but is a good asset to the song. Flow is odd sometimes, but overall is good, you can clearly notice that Em is experimenting stuffs. Best thing in this song is the hook without a doubt. So I will pretty much agree with everything Kill You said, but as much as I like the song, I hope the rest of the album won't sound the same, it's a good formula but it would be a bad move to abuse with it.
So I give it a solid 8/10 and I'm looking forward to see the video which will probably make the song even better.

The first time I heard Berzerk was a radio rip (because my fucking Sirius XM app crashed >:( smh) and after first hearing it I was basically tthinking "what the fuck is this". It sounded awk over the place and I wasn't sure I liked it. But after the first couple of listens I absolutely love it.
