old Em or new Em

Postby Spyder » Dec 13th, '09, 02:22

dunno if this goes here, but its reviewing old material as well as new...

ok which do you like?

i mean most people for the agrument of old Em, say he was more edgy and he said shit that was funny yet raw at the same time. Ture, but if you look at it, Em still says stuff that is considered edgy its just people are use to it. Em will never have the same impact on america as far as vulgerity and over the edge material. people say, "ya its Eminem its expected." The new Em is agruably more lyrical than that of old. his Forever verse had a great flow, emotion, and mechanics of rap. while songs like Stay Wide Awake are just insane rhyming. But songs like Saygoodbye to hollywood and Rock Bottom are very very lyrical and great mechanics as well. but it seems that on average he's more lyrical now. its no question his topics were better back in the day, Though we love Criminal and Kill You, so why dont we feel the same about songs where he kills people today?

my vote is old Em by a slim margin, but if R2 has emotional tracks, new Em will take it for me

Nowadays hes hiding his vulgur lyrics with insane rhymes and flow so it doesnt seem as bad. Back then he just openly said it so it seemed worse.

I said nice rectum, I had a vasectomy Hector
So you can't get pregnant if I bisexually wreck ya
Hannibal Lector and a guy sex and I bet ya
I tantlize you and in less than 5 seconds I get ya
They say once bitten, and twice shy
Well I'm next to the guy with nine ecstacy pills and 5 extra
Boxes of ripped condoms in quantities, why yes sir
I took the rest of the lunesta pills from my dresser
It's my kinda vibe, what else should I try Lester
Drop kicked the bitch before her second trimester
Performed a home abortion with dexter then I guess I
Dig a fetus out with a wire hanger then digest her

Doesn't seem as bad as

My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge
That'll stab you in the head
whether you're a fag or lez
Or the homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest
Pants or dress - hate fags? The answer's "yes"
Homophobic? Nah, you're just heterophobic
Starin at my jeans, watchin my genitals bulgin (Ooh!)
That's my motherfuckin balls, you'd better let go of em
They belong in my scrotum, you'll never get hold of em
Hey, it's me, Versace
Whoops, somebody shot me!
And I was just checkin the mail
Get it? Checkin the 'male'?
How many records you expectin to sell
after your second LP sends you directly to jail?

And I like old em way better.

I actually was thinking about this to an extent the other day. Not old em versus new em, but the fact that the eminem from SSLP was never seen again, the MMLP eminem was gone after that album, TES same thing, encore, re-up, and we'll see about relapse.

Idk if people agree with me or not, but I do honestly think that eminem changed after every album, and when he changed, he never went back, I mean if you take criminal and underground, 2 album ending killing psycho type tracks, lyrics are different, obviously sounds/quality/beats and all that shits gunna be very different when listening but, that's my thoughts.

Yeah I think its more of if you had the choice to listen to older songs versus newer songs, at least that's how I took it.

Funny point tho, he'll always be the same person lol

in that case. old eminem by miles.

Right now I'd say by a mile, but if relapse 2 is dope it'll def close the gap and hopefully kinda have his career come full circle with his music :y:

Scott M wrote:hmm, but i just can't see eminem releasing a song that grabs me like ..

8 mile road
sing for the moment
lose yourself

etc, it just seems that them kinda songs are never gonna come back.

now it's all, kill, murder, rape, more rape, extra rape, drugs.

yeah this is a good point, I feel the same actually now that u said that, but I think if R2 is dope it'll be good for the fact I enjoying sslp, mmlp,TES, and relapse, plus a bunch of random songs he dropped in there. But encore kinda was the marker where he could either break or not, and relapse didnt break me from his shit, so i'd say he can fully come back with R2, but if he does the songs like u mentioned I think he will be back at the forefront of rap like in 2001-2002

I say old Em of course. but spyder you do have a very good point, I always use to say i loved him back then especially because he was more edgy, really though now people just expect it from him.

Scott M wrote:can you really seem him creating another 'saying goodbye to hollywood"

i wish this could happen, but i cannot see it :'(

i mean, just turn this song on .. listen to it, then compare it to the stuff he brings out now, it will hit you. :n: don't get me wrong, i like new eminem, but old eminem > new eminem.

I love how in regular life the one big em fan i know thinks say goodbye hollywood is his best song and her favorite song, it's my favorite of all time, and many people on this sites favorite. For a non-video non-single that's fuckin impressive. Especially with him not saying anything controversial in it to get it noticed. Love this song, and no, I don't think he ever will make a song that has the impact this does :'(

this like choosing between Slim Shady & marshall mathers

I like Slim better (ok a lot better) but if R2 going to be on the serious side, that's ok too. I do like his serious more mature songs, just not much like the old good Shady. But that's the state he's in right now, he's mature, not a hyper kid anymore, that suits him better than attempting at making "shock lyric" (with some epic fail examples in Relapse)

Old em.
"Sometimes I feel so alone,
I just don't know, feels like I been down this road before.
So lonely and cold, it's like something takes over me,
soon as I go home and close the door.
Kinda feels like Déjà Vu, I wanna get away from this place I do,
but I can't and I wont say I tried but I know that's a lie cuz I don't,
and why I just don't know...

The new em is more lyrical but the old em was more wittier with his line's even if he didn't pack as many multies in, sometime's it's just sounds like he's putting anything that rhyme's well together for the sake of it, without the lines actually saying anything(my opinion tho).

e.g. "There they go, back in stadiums as Shady spits his flow, Nuts they go, macadamian and they go so balistic whoa " - New Em

" How you gonna scare somebody with a gun threat, when they high off of drugs they haven't even done yet (Huh?) " - Old Em

New em line has more multies in but the old em just sounds more clever to me. :sweating:

New Em is still really clever and good. But I think that the old Em was more about punchlines compared to the new Em.
