This is what I thought at first too, BUT, if you listen to all Em's demos from SSLP/SSEP he always does the demo in this one toned voice, so tbh there is no emotion.

The original feels realer and grittier, but the SSLP version is objectively better
...the only problem was, my english teacher was a guy...

I like how his voice sounds better on the demo version, sounds more sincere due to the lack of the higher voice IMO. But the SSLP sounds so much crisper and more interesting overall. The beat is stronger on the album version.
