In fairness, this album has being coming, The Roots have being gettin' more and more "conceptual" since Rising Down, with Black Thought being featured less and less on every album since then
My main problem is, none of the tracks really go anywhere, and the hooks are hideous for the most part. Also, I could hardly sit through Black Rock after Black Milk creamed that sample years ago!
It's a huge disappointment, but The Roots were bound to drop a dud sometime
On a side note, BT dropped arguably the verse of the year and possibly his best since Game Theory on Rapid Eye Movement with Monch, I'd love if he went solo after this album, tbh. 6 verses from him on a Roots album is a fuckin' sin

I dunno why the hell they do that since BT is one of the best mcs all time they give so little mic time and would rather give the spotlight to weedcarriers, it's like imagine SSLP or MMLP with D12 running amok and just shitting all over stan or something. Though I still say that some posse cut songs work well like Criminal & Singing Man and wouldn't be as effective with just BT, otherwise yeah. Also agreed don't forget his verse in Bird's Eye View and in Black Milk's album last year, which really makes his subpar verses here a matter of lack of effort rather than him not being capable. (I still don't think any verse he dropped post 2010 can really fuck with like False Media, 75 Bars, Rising Down verse, etc) but still.

Dynamite! is also a favorite of mine from Things Fall Apart, that Jay Dee magic.

I'd probably give it around that score to, maybe a 2. I streamed it twice and just turned it off the second time midway through since despite being extremely short & anticlimactic it's long and dragged out af.
Also which of these three songs do you think are the best this should help you choose whether to listen to TFA, Illadelph, or Phrenology next (whenever you get around to it)
