Good call on excluding MF DOOM cause he only had madvillainy during that period, his prime would be like 1999-04. I'd probably have lupe last though tbh.

I honestly tried rly my hardest to get into eyedea but while I admire and respect him from afar his music is still very hard to get into for me. I actually enjoy hay fever more on it's pure musicality more than lyricalness I admit, although burn fetish is bananas. Same for now & Glass. Still I believe that False Media is a top ten hip hop song and that his verse in living in a new world is just as lyrical as anything you can throw at me. Same for his unwritten verse (damn his shortass songs being his most lyrical >_<

Wayne might be the underdog in this discussion though and he shouldn't his ability to switch up his cadences and delivery mid song to let alone sounding different on just about every song in da drought 3 and sounding like a completely different rapper from DD2-Da Drought 3 is crazy. He's just extremely up and down but he's like up there with kool keith in the weirdness department.

just a warning he does have a bunch of very miss punchlines in Da Drought 3 but he spits them out literally (not even exaggerating) almost every line. Kinda like company flow in that regard, he's a bit too weir for me in Da Drought 3 and I honestly prefer him in Tha Carter II and Dedication II (which I think might be his absolute peak).

alright i'll take that into account, and yeah his terrible punchlines are the biggest detractions from his music.

on a side note, with regards to our ongoing topic of lyricism, I've been listening to On Avery Island while reading along and Jeff Mangum is an amazing lyricist and like John Darnielle in the sense that he's probably better than 95% of rappers. If you just look at rhymes you completely miss on someone like him.
