Kanye West vs Jay-Z

Postby KanyeStan » May 31st, '14, 10:49

Who do you think would win in a rap battle and which one is more talented?
I personally think it would be quite equal in a rap battle but Kanye would take the cake slightly.
Kanye is def more talented, since he can produce quality raps and beats. :worship:
What do y'all think?

That sounds promising tbh.

Jay-z would win and it's not even close to being close... he's still one of the best lyricists when he wants to.

But kanye is more talented as an artist, he's one of the goat producers and he has one of the best discographies in hip hop

I don't think a rap battle would be a good idea purely because Kanye doesn't battle and/or isn't a punchline orientated rapper.

I think that Jay is obviously a better rapper technically, in his glory days.

But Kanye is an infinitely more entertaining and engaging character on the mic. The extent of Jay's personality extends to generic bragging and braggadocio. He's just good at capturing lines and his material or the subject-matter he chooses to attack isn't anything special.

Kanye on the other hand is constantly striving to completely re-invent himself and turn his dreams and nightmares in to musical representation. He's also much more bold, much funnier and much more interesting; dick or not in real life, on the mic - he's a blast and way more-so than Jay. And his albums are more entertaining and interesting than Jay's albums, I also think outside of rhyme schemes or tight rapping skills that he is way more talented than Jay-Z as an artist. He thinks about every aspect in a much deeper way, his appreciation of visuals and concepts is constantly progressive and worlds apart from Jay's recent desperate attempts to seem 'artistic' by simply name-dropping painters and trying to appear weird and abstract.

Jay is a biter. He's always bitten rhymes and he's been trying to bite Ye's steez since he came out. Kanye steps up the style or art discussion and Jay hops right behind him. Jay is half the artist Kanye is.

I also think Kanye would win in a battle. Because nothing matters more in battles than the potency of lines and whilst Jay would come out with smarter or wittier metaphors... Kanye would come out with much funnier and blurt-out chuckle and daring lines which would just smash Jay's.

I think Niggas in Paris is a good song representation of them vs. each other.

And clearly Kanye wins. Everybody screams Kanye's lines, not Jay's. Kanye's lines resonate a lot more because they're more engaging, funnier and more creative, he's just more interesting. And I think a battle would go the same way.

You obviously haven't heard much from Jay (aside from singles) if you truly believe that.... and as if Kanye West isn't the type brag either..... their subject matter is very similar, with the exception of Jay-Z being from the streets and Kanye West being from the suburbs.

I'm well aware of the range of subjects Jay has rapped about. But it's always from an ego-centric standpoint. I don't think he's an interesting lyricist... he's a pretty generic person. He's extraordinary at being generic. He's an extraordinary ordinary person. He's noticeable but predictable.

But back in his prime, he would always keep things interesting and entertaining with nearly every release. It's easy to look back at his career in hindsight and say "he's predictable" because the man has put out over 10 studio albums. But as you believe, and as do I, artists should be judged when they were at their best... and Jay had an outstanding run between 1996 and 2003, which includes 3 timeless classics, that shouldn't be denied by anyone.

"Rap God" and "Headlights" were predictable?

Yeah cuz he's hella over praised.

Like, skills-wise he's nothing special and as a personality he's nothing special... I think the mother phukka gets way too much praise that would be better spent on others.

I mean, he is obviously talented and deserves his mentions, but just annoys me how people talk like he's a god of rap when to my ears... he just isn't.

Rap God is only him rapping his ass off and calling himself a Rap God, it's like On Fire on steroids. And with all the "maturing" stuff you could have guessed he would have adressed his mother issues one day too.

The only unpredictable thing about Em with his last album was the fact that he called it MMLP2.

Ty Aone10, literally every time I was going to quote embase and respond you had already said exactly what I wanted to say even down to picking Jayz Blue and heaven as counter examples.

Jay-Z is one of the most famous rappers ever because he has a great personality and style on the mic lol embase is just such a weird fuck irl that he can't appreciate what Jay stands for
