I really can't put collective years against each other but I'll do a ranking I guess.

94>95>96>=2000>2004>=2006 etc.

I still think the 94-96 run is the best, and it makes sense really. Genres are at their beast close but not exactly near their inception when just about everyone races to the top and there's a certain wish to get to that finish line and establish a canon. Not that I particularly think that those albums are better than their more recent peers but there's just so much MORE quality material overflowing in the 90s even if you don't particularly love them. I mean why do you think the boomers years for rock are overflowing with all those canon material, even though 80s might actually have the best individual albums.

you forgot another classic for 96; Ras Kass - Soul On Ice

and if we're being honest, the year 1996 alone makes the group "94-96" wins the whole thing

jayz released his classic debut, Outkast dropped a classic and they were praised as the possible goat group/duo, Pac dropped 2 classics, Nas dropped his classic sophomore...

Yeah 94-96 is just unbeatable if every post 00 year was as strong as 00 than maybe and sure 06 and 04 had a bunch of A++ albums but yeah, 94-96 had classics from every direction mainstream, underground, every region was goin through a renaissance. Even if you prefer the individual classics of the 00s over the 90s the preponderance of material than just puts it above the rest.

The quality of hip-hop being created in that time between 1991-1996′ is unmatched :y:

94-96. I'm a huge fan of what I like to call the 'prime' period though ('87-96). I'm a boom bap addict and I absolutely dig the murky dusty dark production that was prominent then. As well as the subject matter as well. Shit bumps hard in the ride and never fails to keep my head bobbin. Two of my favorite projects from that period was Mecca And The Soul Brother and Return Of The Boom Bap :worship:

Some of my favorite albums are from that 00-02 span but just too many damn classics from 94-96 for it to not be the best.
