adding power to ur pella

Postby Mc Cubz » Sep 14th, '07, 01:39

basically wen i record my shit the recording is like abit weak, theres no power in it - is it because i used a condensor mic - i use that samson one tht kila n tom have the samson 303u or sumfin like tht, anyway i discovered if u use cool edits feature on dynamics processing - soft limit -18 with boost, theres more power to it, i tried using this effect twice per recording in recent recordings and i found on certain speakers, on higher volumes the recording sounds abit fuked like too poweful on certain words, i have a sample recording for a tune which will be reli important to me cos one day in the near future it will be my first single, i used tht boost effect twice and then applied tht volume level setting mart came up with of 3.2 for his 2.4 for mids and then for lows the general level i found was gud was 4, but even without them volume level setting i have this problem of certain words sounding too powerful it may be called over-compression but i am not sure if its the same thing; mart u cud probs help with this, where shud i go from here or with the raw pella on this song:

btw, I just wanna say that the "tutorial" you got from thomas (I guess) wasn't written by me... it was something I found like 2 years ago lol... I haven't read it for months so I don'T remember what was in exactly, but some things might not be 100% good for every acapella.. it's important to listen to see if the effects you add really help the pella :y:

and your recording sounded fine... the only thing tho is that it sounded like there was a lot of "s" sounds, maybe it's because you recorded with your mouth too close to the mic? you could use some "de-esser" but it might take away from the quality of the whole acapella... maybe you should try to do some tests with your mic, try to see if it sounds better when you record a little farther away from the mic or something :y:

mc cubz, you gotta know what ur doing, all you know is dynamic processing could be limiting something or clearing under 50hz and over 3500hz, so doing it twice might not do much or might do bad...i dunno about dynamic processing but i'm learning about each thing and i haven't gotten there yet.

i suggest reading a tutorial on that stuff

but the best way to add power to a pella, so layer with another pella..make on a bit narrower and the other a bit low volume one a bit wider, but the key is a BIT.. that should add a little bit of power, but the best thing to do is to get better equipment.

what i've noticed from experiance, is if you set the softer pella to wider on speaker which is the speaker range, it sounds better on headphones...
