Mixers work in many different ways, they can alter your vocals before they reach your recording software or they can be used post-recording to clean up your vocals..depends on how big they are, a studio outboard can control everything where as the one this guy has can do a few crucial things..its all about what you're doing versus what needs done..home studios only need a small one while Dr.Dre's studio has prolly 2-3 outboard the size of your dining room table..

Personally Im using my tax money to buy a compact mixer to get a cleaner sound from my microphone
