Best Hip Hop albums?

Postby [SLAPBOX] » Jan 30th, '14, 05:52

Sup! I'm a 21 y/o guy from Sweden.

I play and listen to a lot of music, I've never been a big fan of the underground scene tho. Please don't be offended, I can appreciate underground artists, just not the whole concept of "if you don't listen to (insert artist) you're not a true (insert genre) fan". I'm all about sound and I do not care whether or not I share my preferences with others.

With that being said, who can hook me up with some solid hip hop albums? I'm well versed in music overall, but have yet to widen my knowledge here.

I've always appreciated MM's hits and "Under the Influence" had me giggle mysef to sleep back in the early 2000s so that's why I chose this forum.

Thanks in advance!

Here's a couple you should probably check out:

Earl Sweatshirt - OLD
Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon 1 (amazing album)
Mobb Deep - The Infamous (Classic classic classic)
B.o.B - The Adventures of Bobby Ray (and all his mixtapes...)
Dizzy Wright - The Golden Age & The First Agreement (great flow and very solid production)
TrShady is just great. A place where pompousus blowhards can connect with other pompousus blowhards, and form a vast circle jerk of pomposity.

Lol

Also who cares about different scenes of music. Just listen to stuff you love.

Can't go wrong with Atmosphere's Lemons if you enjoy storytelling and lyricism. Fantastic production.

Just amazed by all the quick replies, thanks! I'll check these out and get back to you folks later.

Kinda puzzled by the fact that people hate on Eminem on an Eminem related forum tho, and I expected Tupac to be brought up by now.

Yeah, I like storytelling as long as the artist pulls it off! I'm into darker stuff in general.

Well being a huge fan of anyone entails a lot of criticism because of heightened expectations. I suppose people didn't bring 2Pac up because of how obvious that would have been. I've never been the biggest fan of 2Pac, but Me Against The World is fantastic; if you haven't checked that album out it's worth your listen.

Also this might be something you've listened to given its popularity but Immortal Technique's song "Dance with the Devil" might be exactly what you're looking for in a dark storytelling song.

Very thankful for this one! Sounds like he's spitting over Sega Genesis samples on some of the songs - fits me perfectly haha! Tracks three, four and title were favorites.
