Popularity has and always will be about attitude

From your past experiences, what makes you think attitude is the main factor?

I think it's really interesting to see everyone weighing in their opinions.

How cool you are is 100% about attitude. Teenagers are awkward and awkward isn't cool. You could be attractive, or potentially attractive, but act strange or dress weird and you ain't gonna be popular. Millions of people find Eminem attractive now but in high school he was that awkward white rapper. What made him "cool" in the eyes of the public? His "Just Don't Give a Fuck" attitude. You can also be unattractive and popular - that was me in high school. I was very aware of the "right" things to do in social situations though. I could crack jokes, I could dress well, I listened to popular music (as well as Eminem all the time - which wasn't a "cool" thing to do in and of itself). I guarantee there were unpopular people at your school listening to the same music as the popular kids. Have you ever seen a fat dude with an attractive girl and you're just like "damn he's hitting above his weight, how does he do that"... It's all attitude, man. Same reason you can see ugly guys get lots of girls. My cousin is a lot less pretty than me, but he has had many many many more sexual encounters. He makes the people he talks to (men and women) feel good, he's just that type of person.

I wrote poems that impressed teachers.

I got bullied for the entirety of my High School life. It was just verbal for a few years, but for the last 2 I was beat up everyday.

I've kind of just flourished in the last year. I've grown into myself
