8 Mile Road (8 Mile OST)

This song was always one of my favorites off of the soundtrack; I personally liked it better than Lose Yourself. It's a very personal song, and the way he tells the whole storyline of the movie is perfect. Production is nice, and the lyrical content is typical for that time period.

"Wish that I could be the daddy neither one of us had
But I'm still runnin' from somethin' I never wanted so bad"

Those lines summarize the angst of Jimmy Smith...and the song is like a narrative through his struggle. Very strong track, perfectly suited for the OST.

Yes, I still believe it to be behind lose yourself though, that may be one of the best songs ever written imo, but this song woulda been very close to as successful

fantastic song. the 3rd verse is some of the best writing he's ever done (the last 2 bars flow beautifully)

i love it when he raps with the chorus melody in the 2nd & 3rd verse & sings with the keyboard melody in the first verse. also the "punchline/crunchtime" breakdown. little additions like these to the verses make it really enjoyable to listen to.

it is still inferior to Lose Yourself though, his greatest musical achievement.

the tracklist of the official cd states 8 mile not 8 mile rd,
i think people put the rd after it to set it apart from the movie when talking abut the song
