It's only the last couple of years I've really properly got back into listening to it. And I'm fascinated by it.
Everything from the intro to the beat to the simple but effective chorus to the vocal screaming and the fact Em does Kim's voice is just perfect. It's a masterpiece.
Not many artists could pull of something like this. It's such a crazy idea but it's delivered just perfectly. Every line works. The simple rhyme scheme makes it sound like an actaul argument and the background noises give such incredible imagery it's frightening.
I was reading this review by Rolling Stone:
Things degenerate from there into the mountain of bile reserved for Kim, the mother of his baby and the star of the world's most public ongoing murder fantasy... "Kim" has Eminem screaming at his ex in an insane stream-of-consciousness hate spew. There's little humor to blunt the shock of the hellbent animosity of 'Kim'. What makes it powerful is that, of course, he doesn't just hate her. It's the most harrowing sick-love song since Guns N' Roses' "Used to Love Her
I dont think it could be put much better than that.
Favourite lines
I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!
I SWEAR TO GOD I HATE YOU
OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU
See it all makes sense, doesn't it?
You and your husband have a fight
One of you tries to grab a knife
And during the struggle he accidentally gets his Adam's apple sliced
And while this is goin' on
His son just woke up and he just walks in
She panics and he gets his throat cut
So now they both dead and you slash your own throat
So now it's double homicide and suicide with no note
One of the cleverst tracks ever recorded and despite not being in my top 10 Eminem songs, it's still one of his few masterpieces.
EDIT: Just found this fan made video.
