Review of Recovery

Postby dare_take » Jun 9th, '10, 22:57

After hearing to the album for more than two days.. i'm writing my review about it.. bear with me it's a lil bit long...

1.Cold Wind Blows

Reminds me of Eminem nostalgia, going back to white america ..
perfect intro for the album...he reminds us that he'll remain
the same and nothing can change it...
and I always love that devil/god voice(reminds me of My Darling)

2.Talkin 2 Myself
Kobe's chorus is the best in the album because it blends in perfectly to the
track and content. Not feeling the Eminem singing. And myself, I feel he couldve
gone and busted both kanye and weezy. My 2nd favorite track.

3.On Fire
My least favorite track.. the beat is banging and lyrics dope.. but Eminem
feels like he's out of his comfort zone...

4.Won't Back Down
"Fork was in the road, took the psycho path
poison ivy wouldn't have me thinking rash"
Absolutely crazy punchlines and insane flow like a watered down version of Insane.
Pink's chorus is ehh... He could've done a lot more with Pink since they are
both rebels.

5.W.T.P
I always wondered why Eminem didn't do party tracks.. well I believe he just did
a satrical one.The chorus is catchy.. and flow blends perfectly ... i believe he just
blended as perfect as anyone could to this track ...(think without me).

6.Going Through Changes
Ok the most emotional song next to You're Never Over ... he plays the storyteller
and the beat escp the heartbeat amplifies the emotions... One of my fav tracks of
Recovery.

7.Not Afraid
Well here we are, the first single of Recovery... a very good inspirational track
and I dunno but I believe he's almost shouting to the mic.. can fell that energy here
through my earphones.

8.Seduction
Ok this track to me is one of the weak joints in the album. Im still confused if
Eminem is talking about a hypothetical girl or if he's referring how he'll
steal hiphop from other rappers. That being said the track is very smooth and love
that jayz sound(..aaw..).

9.No Love
Bashing critics all the way round and gets help from weezy. The Eminem verses should
silence anyone who doubts Em's skills.

10.Space Bound
Ok another love song, I think it's be a perfect single for radio airplay. Who said
Eminem couldn't show a romantic side? and the chorus is banging.

11.Cinderalla Man
The most uplifting track off Recovery.. and talks how he is back to the game
and that nobody could replace him. Crazy one lines and mixing of both chorus and
verses adds perfection. Gangsta Rock :P

12. 25 to Life
My favorite track. Now a lot of tracks have been done talking abt hip-hop as a woman
and the rappers relationship. The emotion in the track makes this track stand out
among those. I believe I have a song after Stan that is almost same in comparison.

13.So Bad
After listening I couldn't take that line off my head "I'm so good I'm so bad".
Smooth as silk and I'm seeing TES eminem on the verses.Maybe Detox will drop .
"Initiate phase 3" :)

14.Almost Famous
This has got to be the weirdest track, not because it's bad because it's so
different from any Eminem song i have ever heard. Rock, hip hop, techno? Idk
But the chorus has a mystical feel to it and damn can't stop listening.

15.Love The Way You Lie
This shows Eminem's ability to adapt to a track, because his flow changes and still
feels consistent and Rihanna is perfect to the chorus, although I don't know what he's talking
about maybe because i can't relate, Kim maybe?

16.Youre Never Over
Ok, I admit the singing is kinda corny but I beleive he did it right because it shows deep
emotions and I leave it to Eminem to lay tribute to the late Proof, having another person
singing the chorus would have ruined it.

17.Here We Go
Ok back to Eminem poking fun on the lyrics... beat would have done as a good club banger though.
The best way to end the album on a lighter note.

Ok so my track review is done.Feeling asleep on the review? well Im almost done but not quite.

Recovery:
It's so weird seeing Eminem spit on tracks that are as different from the old albums as day and
night are.But let's be honest.. he can do another TES,MMLP or SSLP but people will say that he's
the same and he can't go as haywire as Relapse either. So welcome to Eminem 2010( Nobody complains when Jay-z,T.I or anyone else do it) and goodbye Eminem 1999-2009.

That being said , all of the tracks are hits and can stand on their own. I believe the only criticism
I can come up is, all the tracks stand out so much that it's hard to pick favorites and the singing
(he could've spit just pure raw on a hip hop track). In case you haven't noticed their isn't any song that's sad, it's like how you feel when the sunshine hits you in the morning.

As for how it compares to the other albums.. it can't because it has a sound so different than his other
albums that comparing it would not do justice to the album. It's as perfect as it can be catering to
both mainstream (think beats) and hardcore fas(think dope lyrics). I'm definitely buying the new album
when it drops :)

That was during his drug stage, so it would have been a terrible track, and would have been pointless to randomly diss two big artists for no reason at all. Would have made him look a complete twat.

Great review :y:
I agree with most of what you said
BTW, Seduction is a metaphor about hiphop fans, how they jump on one rapper when they're hot, and leave others when they fall off
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Took me a 2 listens to get that, but once I got it, thought that was genius, made me like the song a lot more.

Same here, at first I thought he was talking about women, then I thought he was talking about taking other rappers fans, but he's actually talking about rap fans in general, really nice concept

Definitely. The song is so much more enjoyable once I'd worked out the concept. Executed fantastically as well.

It's actually one of my favorites on the album now. And here I was thinking Won't Back Down would be a neat concept song and Seduction would be some stupid, cliche, cheesy love song lol. Maybe I just haven't listened to enough rappers, but I don't think I've ever heard a song talk about fans the way he did it in Seduction.
