forums/thread getting marked as "read"

ok im noticing when i read a thread, then say click board index at the top to take me back to the board index (funnily enough) the forum is acting like i havent read that thread and its still marked like it has a new post i havent read (even if its me thats just made the post) been happening for a couple of week now, i have no idea why, and i know i can click "mark all forums as read" i do need to do that to keep myself from checking threads i have already read. just wondering if anyone else has this problem or if it is somehting to do with my firefox or something.
