maybe you can argue it both ways, but he seemed really exhausted doing all the rapping without any backing track, plus idk if it's just me but i don't particularly like what the roots was doing with the beats. sounded sorta weird.

I think this lose yourself performance is weak compared to his performances during UIS tour, now THAT was his peak.

Maybe because he was starting to take a lot of pills in this era (2003). He slurs some of his words and he's just slow moving around the stage. He looks tired, too.

His performance peak (IMO) was The Up in Smoke tour and other performances around that time (1999-2000).

His lyrical peak was SSLP. His voice was at its most powerful and versatile on MMLP.

It's less about this particular performance, I'm speaking more of this period in his career.

I don't think he was his most artistic or creative (out of choice and evolution) in 2002 but he was at his peak in every musical sense. The Eminem Show is his best album.

And "Lose Yourself" and "8 Mile" were the next logical step but when he hit the roof. They felt cinematic and essential and bigger than hip-hop. Then came his decline, when he perceived he couldn't get any better.

^ yep.

I think his creative peak was around SSLP, since then fame & drugs caught up and kinda ruined his creativity.

Not at all..

MMLP ETHERS SSLP as a piece of art and as an album. The Marshall Mathers LP is a total masterpiece and The Eminem Show is near perfect.

No way was SSLP his peak.

i think 2002,during The Eminem Show to 8mile.

But personally i would say winning an oscar with (Loose Yourself) something no other hiphop artist could manage.

^ It had more inventive concepts but the premise and execution of MMLP steamrolls SSLP ten times over. It's a much bigger and more important album.

The Slim Shady LP is a GREAT album but it's not a masterpiece, MMLP is.
