I always have trouble in my mind comparing such vastly different things.

I could maybe compare two Em pump-up tracks or two emotional tracks...

But one is a personal triumph track and the other is an artsy, socio-political... whatever lmao, but... they're just too different in aim and execution to me to say which is "better".

I don't even know which one I prefer. It's like comparing a comedy to a thriller or something. I guess I'd say "Not Afraid" is a better constructed song lyrically and structurally and of course Em's flow is always so tight and clear... but then "Power" is more ambitious and the production is better. I dunno. I like them both.

I like Power but he has done waaay better than that and I love Not Afraid, not just because he's Eminem but it's such a good song :y:

Not Afraid is a better song, has much more meaning

But the energy Kanye has on Power is undeniable

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

I wouldn't say it has 'much more meaning'.

It's just about personal triumph and getting out of a slump.

Where as "Power" is a somewhat ambiguous metaphor with more applications and upshots. It's a bigger thought, artistically.

Well, I mean, a drug addict who understands music and metaphors well would listen to Not Afraid and it would have more meaning for them than it would for someone who is not an addict. It honestly depends on the listener

But these two songs are so different, I can find no similarities to compare between the two except that both songs are both of their first singles from their albums.

Power is huge in ambition, I admit that. When I first heard it, it actually made me excited to hear the rest of MBDTF. The rest of the album isn't as ambitious, sadly

I think we just have a different idea / context of the word 'meaningful' here.

Like I seem to have with most people here. I don't perceive meaningful to = personal. Something being deeply personal doesn't automatically make it meaningful, that just makes it personal.

So yes, more people would be able to relate to it but that doesn't make it more meaningful. "Power" is more meaningful as a piece of art because you could interpret it from many different perspectives, thus making it have more 'meaning'. Work with more than one angle is always more meaningful.

I don't think it depends on the listener, I think it depends on how many actual definitions or truly different angles / spins you can put on something. And how thoughtful or intelligent those perspectives can get. And "Not Afraid" is simply a personal triumph song.

I can understand that, but when I said Not Afraid has more meaning, that's the kind of meaning I meant (in my post). There are obviously different views on what makes a song meaningful. I think if you can listen to a song, and feel...something, any emotion...then that song has a meaning to you. Take Beautiful for instance. I know you're not too fond of the song, but Beautiful holds a lot of meaning for me. I relate to it a lot, and I loved the song the first time I listened. Same thing with 25 To Life. I relate to the lyrics a lot (even though it's really not about Kim), so 25TL holds a lot more meaning to me than it does for other people

But, I completely understand what you're saying, it's just to me, that's how I view if a song is meaningful or not. Others may not have the same views as I am, and that's fine. But I've always believed that it depends on the listener and your own personal tastes

There seems to be a sudden obsession with comparing Em and Kanye.

I've noticed this too

I love Kanye's new music though, so I have no problem with the comparisons

Power easily for me
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified
