One of the greatest shows ever.

Some awesome quotes:

Lionel Hutz: This is the greatest case of false advertising I’ve seen since I sued the movie “The Never Ending Story.”

Comic Book Guy: The Internet King? I wonder if he could provide faster nudity…

Homer: When I held that gun in my hand, I felt a surge of power…like God must feel when he’s holding a gun.

Homer: Fame was like a drug. But what was even more like a drug were the drugs.

Homer: Old people don’t need companionship. They need to be isolated and studied so it can be determined what nutrients they have that might be extracted for our personal use.

Mr. Burns: I’ll keep it short and sweet — Family. Religion. Friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business.

MikeNUFC wrote:Not to sound patronising, but I guess it comes down to how you've watched them. If you've grown up with the 'golden-era' episodes before watching any of the later stuff, you get caught up in the characterisation, stories and emotion. When it loses that realism and emotion, it becomes kind of unwatchable to me, because the characters all seem so unbelievable and it becomes more like a cartoon (lol).

The episodes from 10-13 have some decent humour but the plots and characterisation which, for me, were so vital in making the show great, were lost.

Yeah, thinkin about it,the stories from those seasons are indeed ridiculously unbelievable
but then again I rate episodes based on how much they've made me laugh, the credibility of the characters/plot isnt that essential to me. So i guess youre right about that.

In what id disagree with you is that you seem to imply the show has gotten somehow better since then

Yeah, well it's different for different people, I guess.

And, on the second point - I've watched basically every episode from 10-13 and after that probably only about 2/3 at the most and practically zero from the last 2 seasons or so, so it's harder to judge. Based on that, I'd argue 14-present is better than 10-13, but only slightly and mainly based on plots, which got better. The characterisation have never really seriously recovered.

Lionel Hutz: This is the greatest case of false advertising I’ve seen since I sued the movie “The Never Ending Story.”

Every scene with Lionel Hutz in is gold. Probaby my favourite character on the show, up there with prime-Bart, Moe, Lenny, Carl and Dr Hibbert.

One of the first episodes I ever saw. Marvin Monroe is hilarious.

First season episodes make me laugh purely for the animation and Homer's voice, though.

Marge : Honey, I know you feel a little silly saying the same four words over and over, but you shouldn't. You're making people happy, and that's a very hard thing to do.

Bart : You're right, Mom. I shouldn't let this bother me. I'm in television now. It's my job to be repetitive. My job. My job. Repetitiveness is my job. I am going to go out there tonight and give the best performance of my life.

Marge : The best performance of your life?

Bart : The best performance of my life!

LOL Bart Gets Famous is great, although I've watched it wayyyyy too many times as they used to always show it in the UK. The whole Box Factory segment is hilarious.

Guide: This room is the most popular part of our tour.

Milhouse: It's just like the other rooms.

Guide: Yes, but with one important difference: [looks over] Oh, they took that out. Yes, it is just like the other rooms.

One of my favourite lines, from Homer Badman:

"That's okay, your tears say more than real evidence ever could"

And watched Bart Gets An F yesterday. Great episode - the satire on the school system is brilliantly subtle.
