The Eminem Show is my favorite album of all time, so I figured I would pay tribute to it one way or the other. I'm pretty damn bored, so I decided I would write a review of each track. Here we go:
White America 10/10
What a way to start of the album. It seemed to me that Em was broadening his audience and subject matter right from the starting point on this album. A song aimed right at the heart of our nation, while also taking shots at very important political figures at the time. It's hard to ignore the powerful lyrics. The way he delivered it, so perfect. Which will be a definite theme for the rest of the album.
Business 8/10
The beat instantly reminds me of a classic Dre beat, and it fits well for the song, with the Dre feature. I don't know, I like the song, but I don't find myself vibing to it much anymore. Lyrics on point as always, but I just don't really love the song. Can't deny it's good, though.
Cleanin' Out My Closet 10/10
Love this song. The emotion poured into it, without sacrificing a single bit of the integrity of the song. It's beautiful. What a perfect way to get back at his mom. I don't think I've seen anyone make music as well as Eminem does when it comes to getting back at somebody. This song is great, not much else to say.
Square Dance 10/10
One of my favorite songs from the entire album. The beat is crazy, as well as the hook. I love the vibe from this song, the crazy southern twist makes it so dang interesting to listen to. The beats, especially with this one, are crafted perfectly to Em's flow. One of the major perks for the album.
Soldier 9/10
Such intensity in this song, but again, it's one I don't find myself playing too much anymore. The verses are amazing, the hook is interesting, but yeah. I just kind of find it a bit boring compared to some of the other stuff on this album, musically.
Say Goodbye Hollywood 10/10
Another favorite from the album. Again, the beat makes it really interesting, but my favorite part of this song is the hook. It's a message Em has talked about a lot, so I like the way he went about it on this track. It's just so catchy, I really like this one.
Drips 8/10
I know a lot of people feel like this song sticks out, but I think it's perfect. It flows really well with the rest of the album, in terms of just fucking around. It can't be all serious folks, that's not how Em has ever done it. His verse on this is fire, one of my favorite verses from the album. So energetic.
Without Me 10/10
The first line sums it up to me. "Nobody wants to see Marshall no more, they want Shady, I'm chopped liver." For the first time really, we see Shady return in full form for a song. Typical lead single stuff, taking shots at celebs, etc. Probably my second favorite out of these type songs, with TRSS being first.
Sing for the Moment 10/10
A beautiful song. Seriously one of the most inspirational, creative, well written tracks that he has ever put together. The last verse of this song is something to behold, it's so absolutely amazing. From the sample to the hook to the verses to the passion behind his voice. It's all really impressive, and culminates in one of his finest tracks.
Superman 9/10
Always love Dina Rae. Song's pretty damn cool, just another one of those songs that I find pretty interesting on the album, yet I don't really love it. Beat is hypnotic though, damn.
Hailie's Song 10/10
Really like this song. I like that he approached this with a new kind of sense, the singing thing. He's already tributed his kids, and will do so afterwards, but this is my favorite rendition of it. The singing is just catchy. It's obviously not the best, but it's good enough to keep my entertainment, until he comes in and kills it with the last verse.
When the Music Stops 8/10
I really like Em's flow/verse here. How he rides the beat, in this song in particular, is really smooth. D12 is solid as always, though I really wish Em would stop featuring Bizarre on his album(s). I know he's in D12 and all, but sometimes a member gets left out for a particular song. Just saying, he needs to be that guy the majority of the time. He's actually probably holding this song from a 9 or possibly a 10.
Say What You Say 9/10
Love the chemistry from Dre and Em in this one. I tend to see this song recieve, while maybe not hate, just a bit of disrespect. It's a damn good song, with solid verses from both. Hook is eh, but whatever.
'Till I Collapse 11/10
I could probably write an entire review on this song alone. Easily my favorite Em song, ever. The intensity he spits this with is reminiscent of The Way I Am. It's so raw, so powerful. The beat is amazing, one of my favorites on the album. The hook is absolutely amazing, Nate delivers some of the best work I've seen him do, and he always puts out solid material. Em's verses are so intricate, especially with that last verse. I find myself listening to this song the most on the album. It's so damn good, such a great pump up song. After listening to the intro alone, it's hard not to feel that momentum building up.
My Dad's Gone Crazy 10/10
Really like this one too, along with one of my favorite beats from the album. The last verse is probably my third favorite from the album, it's on some really powerful stuff. The second verse has some highlights as well, some really creative stuff in there, as well as some really funny stuff.
All in all, this is, in my opinion, the finest musical album that Eminem has ever made. It's creative, powerful, and executed very well. What an album, I tell ya. And for Em to release this after the MMLP, sheesh.
