Re: Best hooks

Struggling to see how my opinion is face-palm worthy?

Instead, let me be specific and explain why (something you both fail to do)

OK, the first line: 'I can almost taste it' sounds like some cheesy advert for a new food-product or flavoured lip-gloss.
'Wake up behind these trenches, you run around defences' is extremely cheesy as well. Having Em use a hook from a third party to big himself up (the chrous is ambigiuous, but it can easily be seen as such) annoys me. There's nothing creatively innovative about it. To me, the hook is extremely below par. And the lines themselves belittle the rest of the chorus for me.
Now let me say this, I think the verses are pretty good. Nothing terrible about them, but the hook and the beat sound extremely machined; the hook sounds poppy: hence my opinion expressed previously. Nothing to discriminate against here at all, I don't think. As I said, it's an opinion.
But the focus of this topic was on the hook, and you took my post completely out of context.

The hook is one of the best on the album? I might actually agree with that; I think the majority of the hooks on Recovery are plain awful. But that's just my opinion.

Sorry if I upset you.

I can see why, but it just means nothing to me. Take You're Never Over: I thought that was machined pop-rap until an event in my life made me appreciate the lyrics a lot more (sounds clichéd, I know) and the chorus, simultaneously, was terrible before this event.
I believe that songs grow on you immensely; I haven't bumped Almost Famous enough to warrant a good impression, and the last impression it left me could easily be described as pretty 'meh'. (largely because of the hook).

But that's just me. And, paradoxically, I will now start listenting to it to try and appreciate it some more.

Cheers :b:

I bet you also think the Seduction hook was bad.
Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

I didn't think it was terrible, but it's not one of my favourites at all. I don't think it feels like Eminem, and the beat has a lot to say for this. If anything, Recovery would have been a completely different album if Dre and Em were producing the album themselves. The more you think about it, the more interesting the concept becomes... (for instance, would Em's flows and rhymes have been the same? In many parts they were extremely complex, but at the same time there were a number of lines where he just crammed far too many words in to create a rhyme.) I think it's clear that I don't think Recovery was Em's best work, but I do think it has some gems (like GTC).

As I said, just my opinion buddy. Sorry if it appears like I'm disrupting your utopian order of music-enjoyment.

Kind of? Em's verse (which is awesome) sounds like a dragged out hook to me.
