This is a message board, is it not? Are we allowed to discuss music here?

Geno wrote: I Used to Love H.E.R. is boring as well. I'll never listen to it again, actually. Now let's keep other rappers out of the discussion since you brought Common up and I didn't.

Lol was that actually your first time hearing it? jesus.

Geno wrote:Beat: 25 To Life - because looking at SGH's beat, it pales in comparison to the other far more superior, similar sounding beats of TES. 25 To Life sounds fresh from an Eminem perspective.

This all comes down to personal preference and doesn't usually change what I think of a song, but really? The 25 To Life beat is incredibly poppy and almost technoish, Say Goodbye To Hollywood at least had an interesting beat.

Geno wrote:Lyrics: 25 To Life - Not because of multies, or whatever you wanna argue with me about, but because the whole song, the ENTIRE song, has a double meaning. "jealous when I spend time with the girls" could be referring to other women when talking about the girl 25 To Life is about, or about his daughters, since it's about Hip-Hop. That's just one example. SGH has some really lazy lines like the one I mentioned earlier in the thread, "forced us to live alienated" - the first half of it drags and flows awfully.

Okay now I find this ridiculous. Multies are incredibly overrated so I don't care much about that but most of the writing on 25 To Life is very lazy ("planet, ran it" comes to mined, the step part), while on Say Goodbye To hollywood his technical skill is there while not deteriorating the actual lyrics.

Aside from the incredibly unoriginal content (it's one of the most overused concepts in hip hop), he doesn't even pull it off. You can't give away the premise halfway through the damn song. Did you not know what he was talking about after the not loyal part..?

And no, the song doesn't have a double meaning, it's pretty obvious what he meant. He's rapping about hip hop, the jealous when I spend time with the girls part means that fans or whatever don't want him doing anything else other than releasing music but that part is pretty redundant.

Geno wrote:Voice - Tie. Both are equally passionate.

:s Screaming vs one of the best deliveries in rap.

Geno wrote:Hook - 25 To Life. You wanna talk unoriginal and generic? Look at SGH's hook.

Neither of them are all that special imo.

I just don't see how these songs are even comparable. I mean come on, have you listened to Say Goodbye To Hollywood? It's a look into Eminem's personal life and the problems caused by fame, 25 To Life is just his attempt at an overused concept

Aww, I think you guys are being a little harsh on him lol. I actually think Say Goodbye to Hollywood is better too. His flow on 25 to Life is too distracting for me.

EDIT. I agree with you Accor but I don't think you are defending your standpoint effectively.

Nah I never said the rhyming was lazy. Just the flow on some lines. Rhymes on both songs are impressive but the fact that 25 To Life all has a double meaning puts it higher on my list in terms of what's more impressive to me.

I love the sample used on 25 To Life, it's great. I heard it's the same chick who sings the one by SH.

Geno do you think SGTH is a better song regardless of the fact you prefer 25 To Life?

The only reason I'm arguing is because he thinks the writing is actually better on 25 To Life. If he just preferred it I'd just be like ok that's weird and wouldn't bother posting.

Also it's on arguably his best album and I'd much rather listen to other songs on the album, and other songs in his discography that deal with a similar subject matter such as 25 To Life.

Why didn't you say "ok that's weird" and not posted? I never said the writing was better before you started arguing.

When I first posted I was expecting you to just post back and say that you just preferred 25 To Life and knew that Hollywood was the better song. Then a bunch of other people posted and we started arguing, then you said that you actually think the writing on 25 is better. Here we are.

Do you prefer 25 To Life or something or are you just defending Geno for the sake of it.

That's like saying "Yo chocolate tastes way better than vanilla, but I prefer vanilla."

That makes no fucking sense.

You just called it boring though. I thought that you found it boring but still thought the verses were very well written.

You can prefer the whole package of a song but know that another song is technically better.

Like, Seduction is probably the only song I listen to on Recovery now. Is Going Through Changes the better song? Yes. But I love Seduction for completely subjective reasons.

If it was the exact same song it'd still be trash no matter when it was released.

Good song, but I wouldn't put it as a GOAT. Like Geno said, the chorus is repetitive.

Amadeo wrote:Geno, why is the "forced us to live alienated" line lazy?

It just sounds lazy. It reminds me of how, post-comeback, sometimes he drops the beat at the end of a verse to prevent him from running really far off of it, or in other cases he speeds up really fast at the end. In SGH's case, it's the same without the beat completely dropping. It just sounds really awkward and doesn't flow as good as the rest of the song imo.

It's also the last line of the song, so I wish he could have reworded it a little better and still ended it with "forced us to live alienated", but the first half seems to drag on.

^^ Only complaint I have with the song.

One of the most played of TES right now. It's even better when you listen to it along with The Kiss skit and Soldier
