If yes, do you have both Windows and Linux (like a dual thing)?

My laptop runs Linux Mint as the only operating system. My tower is dual booted for 7 and the latest version of Ubuntu.

I've only used Linux Mint and Ubuntu, never gotten into it as my main OS though.

Do I have to wipe out everything on my current OS (windows) if I want to have a dual boot?

We're having about Linux this semester, so that's why I am asking. For now, I am using a Virtual Box to run Ubuntu

But a friend of mine (who hasn't done that yet) told me that his friend said that you have to restore everything to create a new partition.

I'm pretty sure when you boot the Linux iso it will guide you through creating a separate partition. And yeah, there will be several sites that show this kind of stuff. From personal experience, nothing was wiped out.

Just checked out some other site (http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/05/17/ho ... ndows-7/2/), and it seems fine... I am just afraid that if I do, something goes wrong and I lose everything (I don't have an extern harddisk yet, but I am thinking of buying one and create a backup, just in case).

This is gonna be a difficult semester. I know nothing about Linux, and it seems a bit difficult, plus I have four tests before the actual exam

Oh, and did I mention that the class about Linux starts 8:30 AM (and I have to get up 6:00 AM), and lasts to 2:15 PM?

I would always back everything up before you install or partition anything. Because even if you do it right you never know.

I've never used Linux myself but I should probably get around to it some day...

The Ubuntu installation is easy as hell SajN, you just about can't fuck it up.

Linux is an all around better option than Windows for 95% of people. The only exception is if you are a professional media editor or you are a PC gamer.

If you have a Windows PC that's years old and ready to die out, you should download Linux and use that instead as it takes much less memory and performs much faster on older computers.

I didn't understand all those partitions thing, so I didn't wanted to fuck up something. It was a software that would automatically install a dual boot for you, so I did that, but it didn't work. What I have now is a virtual machine with Linux in it. I never use it, though.

Late as fuck but only just saw this thread, was the software Wubi.exe by any chance?
