So earlier I was playing Rainbow Six Vegas and it got me thinking about this. Obviously, as time passes on, technology is going develop, graphics are going to look better, and developers become more seasoned. Some of my favorite games now just come out to be so pale in comparison even though they were the shit back in the day.
Now, of course, don't get it twisted, just because a game has dated graphics doesn't mean it hasn't aged well. I'm specifically talking about AI, game play, etc. For example, Goldeneye is almost 17 years old and it is hands down the greatest FPS of all time. GTA: Vice City is still one of my favorite GTA's if not my favorite. I could keep going on. Graphics shouldn't mean shit to real gamers. I digress.
Examples of games that haven't aged well for me is the original F.E.A.R, Assassin's Creed 1, and most recently and disappointing for me, Spider-man: The movie (2002). All these generally well-received games, to myself included just can't help but feel dull when you come back to it years later after many improvements have been made in their respective genres even as desperate as I was to be blinded by my nostalgia.
Anyone else have this moment of disappointment? If so, list.
