The Heist is literally the only album in my collection I regret buying, I'd liked some of his earlier songs 'The Otherside', 'Fake ID', 'Bush Song' etc and songs like 'Wings' & 'Thrift Shop' but it just doesn't feel like Hip Hop to me or what I like about Hip Hop.
Yes, he's got pretty good beats, decent rhymes, different concepts and stuff but I just can't git jiggy wit that shit.
I think it's also because I can't relate to him, I've no idea what it's like to be an upper class bloke in America who is passionate about gay rights & anti consumerism and also his core ideas/values I can't relate too.
I love NWA, for example I can't relate to killing police, shooting people etc because I've never done any of that but I can relate to the fact they go against the system, authority and that's how I've been for my whole life.
He just doesn't possess what I love about Hip Hop, he's talented but boring.

He's good! He gets to much hate I think but he has a few good tracks! Especially his 2009 EP 'The Vs. EP' that was raw. Overall he's good but he's been ruined by the industry and how people perceive him.

I like his music and the Heist was pretty great.

It had some amazing songs on there and some lukewarm songs, but overall the production was handled great by Ryan Lewis. Macklemore is a promising rapper as well. He does recieve a lot of silly hate, its pretty pathetic tbh.

You've just described p4k lol

Really? It just means dirty samples.

When you sample something of a scratchy vinyl

fans nowadays use the term "dusty" to hate on it because it feels outdated .. usually them drill/trap niggas

He's an above average rapper backed by great production and an amazing work ethic that was thrusted into a position higher than he ever dreamed and he wasn't prepared for it.

The first song I've heard from him was Wing$ and I loved it back then and still do. The song reminded me of this Hate it or Love it quote
Been bangin since my lil nigga Rob got killed for his Barkley's
That's 10 years I told Pooh in 95' I'd kill you if you try me for my Air Max 95s

Great sample/hook, cool rapping and dope ass beat. Sometimes, the beats he raps over remind me of Kanye's.

I also like Ryan Lewis' production.

Why should he feel obligated to put any of them on just because he was probably influenced by them? They never threw him a bone when he was the smaller. And how do you know he didn't ask them to do something and they declined?
