I'm not asking which albums you think deserve classic status, I'm asking which albums ARE undeniable classics that don't get talked about on here.

3 Feet High and Rising, Low End Theory, Paul's Boutique, License to Ill, Critical Beatdown are all definitive classics. Legends Never Die and By the Throat aren't.... that's why I said to refrain from listing your favorite artists albums in the OP.

@Crash, Madvillainy has been mentioned here a few times and it always earns a high spot on top 100 albums lists on the forum. I'm talking about albums that get little to no mention at all.

so did you just want us to cite forgotten 80s and 90s albums that most people overlook cause they find them a tad dated. Not denying they're classics, also not that I even love BTT but it seems you're going on general consesnus and popularity of what's a classic. I think we're saying that there are tons of unheard of albums that have every right to be listed as one even if they're known that well known. Lots of people consider BTT a classic not just it's fans here.

And LOL come on bruh, just about 90 percent of the people who heard Madvillainy say it's a classic or at least great album. It's insanely critically acclaimed too, if that's what we base it on. Denying Madvillainy general classic status is as dumb as denying illmatic classic status because it's not as known.

Point I'm saying is why the hell should we care to list albums that are "considered" classics by the general populace if we don't care for them ourselves, lol

This a lot of hip hop fans place it over MMLP, Blueprint, Donuts, Stankonia, Game Theory, Both Ye albums, A piece of strange, etc etc.

I'd agree to the chronic and in a sense 36 chambers, by the way I wasn't dissing them. I actually enjoy Three Feet High & Rising and wish hip hop still retained a sense of youthful playfulness in it and also that the entire genre seems to be lacking atmosphere. Yet goes for super technical shit to try and cover up it's deficiencies, (which is why I like albums like Money Store, Flockaveli,Yeezus).

If you want me to be blunt though than yeah I do think most people (myself included) are too ADD to listen to an album from a different time period that is so far removed from our era. Listening to 80s rap like the beastie boys, you might as well be listening to another genre.

What really decides what makes a classic to begin with though? Popularity, critical acclaim, it's cult status? No, it should always first and foremost be actual quality but I doubt you'll deny that there are tons of little known gems that are overlooked but a lot of fans haven't heard it. If they were great quality wise, than they're a classic, end of discussion (in my eyes).

As for madvillainy is probably the most lauded hip hop album of the 00s when it's all said and done. Easily on par with MMLP and blueprint probably even more so. Like if you want general music fans opinions on the case than https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album ... dvillainy/, it's near the top 100 charts in RYM. Whic his DOMINATED by dadrock and "canon" material, and is one of the highest ranking hip hop albums in the site only bested by like illmatic and Wu Tang. And you can't say it isn't a good sample because it has close to 7000 ratings. It's obviously considered by many fans and even dilettantes of the genre to be a Classic. And I doubt you want me to show it's wiki page and all the praise it gets there, you already know though. It's definitely considered far more of a classic than GRODT, LOL, no questions asked.
