Just gonna take 2001 as an example. If that album dropped today it would still sound fresh as fuck. It's timeless. I don't think that the same could be applied to the SSLP, hell not even the MMLP

What do you mean by "dated"? Do you mean it sounds like it was made in the 1990s? Maybe because - gasp - it was?

SSLP has an underground feel to it because most of the songs were created by the Bass Brothers who had a lower budget than Dr Dre.

COE has a funky beat with a really cool bassline. Perfectly fits the funny lyrics.

What I'm trying to say is that if it dropped today it would not be up to par with todays production and everything. Which is understandable since it's been 15 years. But that was my whole point. Saying that it still sounds fresh is stupid.

The production has nothing to do with when it was made, it has to do with who made it. The Bass Brothers had a different sound to everyone else out there.

I much prefer hearing the subtleties in those beats to the saturated beats he raps over today, complete with female singers. There's no question the production sound he got became "bigger," but that doesn't make it better. That's entirely subjective.

Regardless, you don't listen to the Bass Brothers production and go, "that's 1990s style production." Because it isn't. It's Bass Brothers style production.

MMLP dust except for The Way I Am because I will admit that is epic stuff, great writing, great beat & all around execution. if the album had more stuff like that (especially production) it would be the GOAT among GOAT albums but....SSLP >>>>>>
