I have no real grounds to stand on and just basing it off my prejudices against lo-fi music and how so many people think because =simple it's better and deep, (yes there are people who think that, just like prog fanatics who think more complexity is better), which is why I found Nick Drake's pink moon unbelievably boring. I unno lo-fi strumming with heartfelt emoish songs, doesn't resonate with me at all. And no brand new is completely different, they're really only emo in the vocal style, and do have a tim burton emoish rock aesthetic but aren't an "I hate life" type emo, it just feels like it's music for people who graduated from hot topic bands and who just live in a very dreary depressed worldview who sees the world through sepia tones. Yeah I know, I like depressing lyrics too and enjoy lo fi music as well. I think very highly of this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRiSxm0xB1s and it's simple as can be, but i unno. Like I said it's an irrational prejudice against the type of music cause of the fanbase he evokes, lol.

Those are great though seriously

it's just overly complicated and using big words and complex phrases just for the sake of of them being complex but it means literally nothing. Not rly impressive, just jedi mind tricks shit.

and elliott smith is great, his melodies are amazing. Independence Day >>>>>>

Albert Camus is great 2

uh no it isn't, it's literally better than every gibbs opening line you posted other than The Real G Money.

Let's break this down shall we?

Straight out of the depths of hell

^ self explanatory and is a great description of harlem

Reflect the sec and
Inhale the buddah wisdom
Envision and edit inscriptions of a Megalah spiritualism

Again what is the big word here, making his name a word? Megalah? lol
Paint a picture from the spiritual
And seriously spit a lyric
That'll rip through a physical ligament

This isn't complex at all, lol other than literalizing his "lyric" lol

How do you love madvillainy and think DOOM is a great lyricist than turn around and crap on this, He's just adding religious themes to his music which a lot of 5 percenters or wu tang like rappers do.

his melodies are so catchy that they could be on poppy songs.

talking about the exact opposite of simple music and lyricism, rap geniusing aesop rock is so fucknig rewarding , lol. even tho rap genius has tonnes of reaches for shit like kendrick lamar or jay-z

not complex for us but complex for most hip-hop listeners. and i was posting those gibbs lyrics for his flow and delivery and how great they sound.

doom lyrics are about 500x better than those tho tbh

well that just means hip hop fans have to do their homework. You don't read ulysses and without knowing about the odyssey and than crywah wah this book is too complex, wahh gimme back Harry Potter.

also stop speaking in platitudes, Doom has tons of filler or boring lines. And I know, but if we're talking strictly lyrics than those are far better, also stop hating on JMT, they're cool. The hell's wrong with you.

Oh yeah why do you love aesop rock if you lord around simplicity and brevity, when he's a million times more obtuse than this or Doom.

i don't hate complex lyrics, just when the complexity is the selling point of the lyrics…aesop lyrics have meaning and are pretty interesting while those are pretty dull

tbh. IMO a great lyricist needs to find the balance between simplicity & complexity. I don't see the point of listening to a puzzle lol.

One of the reasons I love Pac is because his lyrics werent a puzzle like some rappers. He was direct with his shit and he had a message. It was something about him that made everybody listen, thats what makes him one of the the greatest hip hop artists. If you read any of Pacs poetry youll see that he coulda been as deep as the ocean but that wasnt what he was about.
